When the SCLC gathers this week to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., and the promise of Barack Obama, the presence of at least one more major figure will loom large – Michael Vick.
During a press conference announcing the opening of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference's 49th annual convention to celebrate the organization's 50th year, president Charles Steele noted that the organization would find some way to honor and recognize the embattled Falcon's quarterback who is under federal indictment on dogfighting charges.
"We will work with anyone who opens their heart and arms to us," said Steele.
Steele added that it still isn't clear how Vick will be honored and it is uncertain that Vick will attend any of the conference's events, which run through Wednesday.

He doesn't even know what to honor him for...
He'll work with anyone that opens their ---what?...wallets, maybe?

There isn't enough vomit in the world to express how much these people need to rethink this "award".  What is he being honored for?  Killing dogs????? They need to wait until the court decides the fate of Mr. Vick.  Otherwise, their credibility as an organization is all done.

And isn't it a shame that Vick has probably been honored for a long time now because of his football talent...and he didn't know what to do with it....he dug himself into a hole!

What would you say if the SCLC has said "We are supporting Vicks in his upcoming trial and his right to be viewed as innocent until proven guilty".

Supporting him until he is found innocent or guilty is so much different than honoring him.

That is why I asked it.  I'm just curious whether people would have the same opinion of the SCLC if they had said that.

It would have made a difference to me...because at this point into the game.....there is nothing honorable about him.

They have now anounced that he will not be at the conference.  The SCLC has acknowledged there are more important issues for them to address rather than defending a multimillionaire athlete.  I believe one official said it would be a "distraction".  They might be a little late but atleast they made the right decision.

They probably were going to HONOR him until the $ hit hit the fan!
