Ever since the sex offender registry, there have been pushes in a number of states and municpalities to create other registries of other people who have broken laws. Several states now have a registry for people who have been convicted of meth posession or sales. I have never liked these registries and when it was just the sex offender one that made me sound like I was defending sexual predators which of course I'm not. But I do rememebr pointing out that if that can be a "registerable offense", then what is next? Apparently that was meth use. Okay, meth is a terrible, destructive, horrible drug that destroys lives and ruins towns. Who wants to defend those people? No one did, and now it's dangerous dogs. Can we see where this is going? Whatever the hot-button issue is in your area, increasingly someone is going to start calling for a registry for it.

I can certainly see your point. Here the local PoPo's been posting pics for a while of guys busted with hookers. That's been interesting for their families I'd wager.

Hard for me tho...I do see the value of a SO registry. The dog one? Less...the meth one? Less... BUT if I lived in one of those towns where basically everyone and their Mom is doing it or cooking it, or thinking of moving to said same? I might value it...
I guess it's all perspective. Perhaps one should see how much use a registry is, and use that as some sort of balance against the cost of maintaining it? Or vote to have one or not? I think a vote is fair...if the majority want to "know"...and it's public info anyhow you just need a form...then?

Sorta OT but relating to above, It was my understanding that pretty much any felony crime you are convicted for, was public record?

I'm not sure I understand the concept.  If the dogs are dangerous enough to warrant placing the owners in a database, then why would they even be allowed to still own the dog?  Yes, there are dangerous dogs out there due to irresponsible or abusive owners, but a registry of these dogs is just a little much.
