      The caretakers of more than 300 dogs, cats and birds seized by
      animal-control officers earlier this year have been found guilty on all
      counts by an Oxford, Pa., judge.

      In a ruling released today, Magisterial District Judge Harry W. Farmer Jr.
      ordered about $300,000 in fines for Michael Wolf, Margaret Hills and Gordon
      Trottier, and prohibited the three from owning or caring for animals for
      years.

      The judge did not order jail time, which prosecutors had requested, but did
      award custody of more than 330 animals -- mostly dogs, but also cats and
      birds -- to the Chester County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to
      Animals.

    Received copy of Court order:

    animals, plus Guilty on other counts: his total fines & costs: $118,357.50;

    *    Margaret Hills - Guilty of 269 counts of Cruelty to animals: her
    total fines & costs: $80,819.50;

    *    Gordon Trottier - Guilty of 65 counts of Cruelty to animals, plus
    Guilty on other counts: his total fines & costs: $25,438.00.

    *    PLUS Hills ORDERED to pay 80% & Trottier ORDERED to pay 20% of the
    costs of care & treatment of the animals which, as of this spring. is
    approximately $ 300,000.00.

    *    PLUS: ALL animals are to be FORFEITED to the SPCA

    *    PLUS Wolf  83 years, Hills  66 years, Trottier 16 years - years for
    which each of them are PROHIBITED from owning, possessing or controlling any
    animals - in effect a lifetime ban.

    Only item left out requested was "jail time".

    NOTE: Defendants have 30 days to file an appeal, & since this will not only
    put all of them "out of business", but possibly into personal bankruptcy, an
    appeal is likely, (Legal System!!!!!!!!!).

    Animals can not be adopted out until ALL appeals have been exhausted.

    I have  researched & lectured to many groups on the sad reality of "puppy
    mills", especially in Eastern Pa & this is the STRONGEST court order EVER in
    Eastern Pa, & maybe ever in the US against puppy mills.

    Not related to this case but in the same vein, I was watching one of those animal cops shows and the ASPCA had seized two horses that had been starved, one of which had to be put down.  At the owners sentencing, the judge ordered her to jail, only 30 days, but the for the first three she was only to be fed bread and water and her cell was to be "decorated" with photos of the emaciated horses.  Creative sentencing but I'd like to have seen her get more than 30 days.  Some fines were ordered but I don't remember the amounts.

    Jaime, I'll let you know.  I'm going with someone else, so when we leave here will depend on her schedule.  I'll PM you when I know more!
