California Breeders & Pet Owners, Your rights to own and breed dogs are under attack! California Assembly Bill 1634 will require that any dog or cat over the age of four months be spayed or neutered unless the owner qualifies for and obtains an intact animal permit. The permit qualifications are onerous and there is no real limit as to what a local jurisdiction might charge for this permit. I have mixed feelings on this. I think it would be a great thing for the most part, but I read in Sac Bee that some shelters are saying alot of people would give up their dogs to the shelter rather then get them fixed.

It could also raise a bigger black market sort of thing, but other then that it sounds good to me.

This type of bill will reduce pet owning options significantly. It could evolve even more so that dogs of a certain type or certain size will disappear. Check out what is happening in TX. This could be just the beginning, just a few irresponsible owners may impact all dog owners in the not too distant future.
