Black Dogs and Lower Adoption Rate

I have a theory about *one* reason why black dogs may have a lower adoption rate.

A lot of people (these days) browse petfinder, etc. for adoption.

Black dogs do not photograph as well as lighter color dogs... and I believe this *may* have something to do with it.  The photos don't always look as good, as in there is not as much definition.

I grew up with black dogs, as was said before, and I happen to like them very much.  Tyson is not black, although, I did not pick him out!

I do have color preferences in dogs, but it would not stop me from adopting one that was right for me in personality!

    Go black dogs!

I love my black dog. ANd I specifically wanted a black dog.  I think they are more noticeable as you don't see as many black dogs around.

I heard this very same thing from the shelter we got Ella from.

I never thought about this being an issue. It's very sad.

I just adopted a black lab from the Huamne Society and she is a sweetheart!I can't understand why someone wouldn't want a dog like her,I consider myself lucky!

Siena - Boomer is a cocker spaniel/poodle mix.  We wanted to get all black but once we saw his "tuxedo" looking colours we fell in love.

    Jjsmom06,
Your greyhound is so beautiful. I am planning on adopting a greyhound at the end of this month and the agency has a black male that I love. I was thinking that he would be one of the first to be adopted, so I was working on not getting attached to him. I had no idea black dogs were so hard to adopt out. I guess I'll aim for him now. :) They also have a gorgeous blue hound. I understand that those are the rarest color. They're all so beautiful and sweet sounding that I have just about all of the ones available set aside in my mind as the one I want. Ha.
