Make your displeasure known in Louisville

Louisville KY recently passed dog ordiance is a nightmare for those who live in the area and well as individuals planning to attend dog events in that area.  Any intact dog actually making it into the hands of the local government shelter will be neutered, no questions asked and will pay a hefty fine on top of that.  So, if your dog would be loosed by someone or by accident, picked up there goes your conformation dog.  The number of animals is limited significantly.  Any bitch in season who comes in contact with an intact dog may be seized.  Bully breeds and other working dogs are particularly targeted.  It is pretty awful.  I have sent a letter to the Chamber of Commerce and basically stated my money is going elsewhere.

Please consider contacting organizations and individuals within the Louisville area to protest this regulation passed by the city council.

Yes, I have tears in my eyes as I am writing this.   On a personal note - I will only be legally allowed 3 animals --dogs and/or cats -- for my lot size.  If you have at least an half acre, you can have 5 dogs/cats. There are several options for kennel licenses. But, that will be prohibitive in a neighborhood.  I must purchase a permit to be allowed to purchase a license for my unaltered dog -- as I will only be allowed to have ONE unaltered animal.
If my unaltered dog gets loose or picked up by animal control for
ANY reason -- including bothering my neighbors for just being a dog-- 2 anonymous complaints = pick up -- I will be required by law to have him neutered upon release -- after a hefty fine.
    > Unlicensed animals carry a $250.00 per dog fine along with having to be spayed/neutered.
I will be required to have a 6' fence.
NO unaltered dog can be on a leash longer then 4 feet.
If I have ONE litter of puppies and/or sell ONE dog in a year, I
will need a $300.00 broker license.
NO bitch in season can come in contact with ANY other dogs/cat even if spayed or neutered.
There are 96 pages of this.
Metro Councilman Donard had 89 amendments to clarify vague language and to support the dog fancy in all aspects in just the first 30 ;pages.  He was voted down 87 times on straight party lines.  I am not being partisan - I was there and counted the voting. The
Republicans fought for dog owners.  It was an automatic NO by the controlling Democrats.
I attended many of the committee meetings over the past year. I am sick by what I witnessed tonight/morning.
Think hard before you decide to support the Louisville community by attending the March dog shows.

I have been working on this through the STCA/ADOA and writing letters to council. This was the old bait and switch...they had everyone focusing on BSL and then withdrew it for Spay/neuter bills which passed. Sad, sad, sad...I'm all for spaying and neutering of pets but if HSUS and DDAL are permitted to continue we'll soon see an end to pet ownership in the years to come because they're all sterile due to high licensing fees and conditions

It is sad,,, And I just loved the Louisville cluster,  it was a great transition from winter to spring.  I even had the bad luck (but good ending) of having a dog get loose at the show (slipped out of a collar when he was with the handler).  Luckily I just turned back around and went back.  Other than some bloody pads, he was fine.  I shudder to think what might happen now.  Especially since three different people with bitches in season joined to help catch him.  What would be their reward for that self-less act now?
