    Update about my neighbor

Its been a while since I have posted, but there has been some new developments with my neighbor.  Just to refresh your memory, my neighbors Daschund was being starved.  It somehow got into my yard where I found it and turned the dog over to animal control. They had the owner surrender her other dog to them and they were working on getting the daschund back to healthy and finding them new homes.  That is where the story left off.  Here is the update:

A month ago I get a subpoena in the mail to testify against my neighbor.  So I go to court today and boy was that an ordeal.  There to testify is the police officer who took my statement, the head of animal control, the vet that treated the dog and me.  The vet informs me that if I hadn't found that dog and got him help that he would have been dead in a week.  The DA who is handling the case says it should go quick as he is positive that it will be trial by judge cause no one in their right mind would pick a jury to hear this case as animal abuse is to emotional a case for the average citizen (meaning it would be safer to go with a judge who can put their emotions aside).  Well my neighbor decides to go the jury route [sm=uhoh.gif].

So are you ready for her defense....  She just thought the dog was old and getting skinny, cause dogs do that when they get old and I am just a meanie who is picking on her by contacting the authorites.. [sm=angry.gif] WTF!!!  And she didn't have the money to put the dog down (35 bucks at the animal shelther) but she had the money to retain her own attorney (at least 95 an hour).

Her attorney was just a snake but I understand that is his job. He asked me if the dog was limping or crying (cause apparently that is the only way a dog would be hurt).  He then tried to imply that I turned the dog in cause I didn't like my neighbor but I shot him down.  I said if I didn't like her then I would have constantly complained to AC about her dogs running at large, which I didn't, and I also wouldn't have taken an unpaid vacation day from work to testify ON BEHALF of her daughter when the boyfriend pulled a gun on her.  Well her attorney pretty much was done with me after that.  There is NO WAY a jury will find her innocent, the pictures alone can't be denied.

I do have more of an update on the dogs.  The Daschund, Buddy, is now living in Corvallis Oregon with his foster family who have decided to keep him permanently.  He is happy and fat and is enjoying his senior years.  The other dog, Gracie, is with a resuce.  She has some temperment issues that they are trying to fix.  Hopefully she will find a new home.

I won't know the verdict till tomorrow but I will try to post once I hear something.

And on a lighter note... guess who is already going to be 1 in just 4 weeks!!!

Please do let us know what the verdict is. I just can't believe people! I should never be shocked but I always seem to be. Good luck tomorrow!

OT, but what do you think of the idiot in Hillsboro who beat the GSD when it sniffed a thim?  I hope he gets a mondo fine and jail time![:@]

I just came across this thread.  I often thought about your story, Amy and wondered how that little dog was doing.  I'm so glad to hear that a permanent family is providing a loving home to special, senior dog!

Have you any more news about the court case and jury outcome?  As you said, who the heck would believe that the lady "didn't have the money to euthanize," yet has money for attorneys and such.  Honestly, people like that have zero compassion and have an evil streak, IMO.

Your daughter is a doll - she must be a delight.  How is Hannah?  I always look forward to photos of her.  Our precious boy, Tonka, was a Bull Mastiff, and so many of Hannah's photos remind me of him.  Now that he's at the Bridge, we especially like to see others like him.  Our life without him is very lonely; we miss him terribly.  Big dogs leave huge holes in your heart when they're gone.

Good luck with the continued "saga" with your neighbors.  I'll bet you wish they'd move away!  On behalf of the dogs involved, THANK YOU for all your efforts in this case!

Hi Amy. For some reason I just happened to be thinking about you today, and then I stumbled across this thread.

Thanks for the update on your neighbor's dog. You were very brave, and you saved that little dogs life. Good job.

Give Hannah a squish from me [:)

Thank you and bless you for caring, stepping in and doing the right thing, and seeing it through. And for goodness sake, watch where you flap your doggy angel wings! It's messing up my hair!
