Great news, it is so necessary, I think. One shelter I vol'd for has a program of fostering dogs for folks in the service who will be deployed for long periods of time. Most shelters insist people relinquish their dogs altogether, or they won't/can't help.
One of my good friends has two pits, and both she and her husband are in the Army, with a 2yr old daughter. If they are both deployed at the same time, having someone to take their daughter is critical... but who would take the pitties? They *HATE* Gracie, but I've said I would find a way to take them and create separate spaces for them apart from Gracie. It's not easy! (Please let it not happen right now, or I wouldn't be able to do it.)
