Pardon me, while I leash and walk my black bear down the street--talk about wanting to bang your head!!

People see my dogs and they are like "Uh, that's aa pit bull right?"  When I say yes, they turn and go the opposite way.  I shake my head and keep going.

A long haired dalmation for Trudy ( or a dalmation/springer mix) and a coon hound or pitbull mix for Grace - aaarrrgghh!

I've my fair share of unusual guesses for Bugsy and the insistent "he's all lab" (Um yea with a spotted chest, white feet, tight single coat, and whip thin tail). The giant purebred pit was amusing and as is any reference to a rottweiler.

Yeah, I don't have chihuahuas either. About half the people ask about my chis. The other half ask about my mini collie/border collie or my papillon... I'm sure since Mia is tricolor we'll get the border collie thing more. The sables get called mini collies all the time.

Ari is not a common breed, so it always amuses me when people ask me what type of mix she is (I get black lab/golden a lot or springer spaniel mix).  My absolute favorite though is "oh is she one of those black Irish setters?"

Oh, I totally forgot my favorite one like this, DH and I are walking Honor when she was a puppy and this guy runs up to us yelling "Hey, you tamed a RACCOON??!?!  Can I pet it?" Indifferent

While I DO have a Chihuahua, Penny gets mistaken a lot. I've had tons of people think that she is a Chihuahua, baby Doberman, Manchester Terrier, German Shepherd (Indifferent), Rottweiler or Dachshund.

A number of people have asked if Shadow is part wolf, which I can understand. He has the appearance, at times, of a timberwolf.

The funniest one, though was Chocolate Lab. For one thing, aside from white crests on Black Labs, Labs are monochromatic. Shadow has 4 colors. And pure Labs have long rounded ears that can reach the corner of the mouth, not pointed triangular ears. Labs have otter tails, not bushy ones carried in a curl over the back. And Labs are not double-coated the way Shadow is.

Rascal gets mistaken for a chihuahua all the time. He does rather look like a long-haired chihuahua, if you're unfamiliar with papillons.

The funny thing is that Peanut is mistaken for a Papillon all the time! I'm so surprised that all those people even know about Papillons. The picture in my signature is when he was a little puppy. Now he has lots of fringe and is similar in color to Papillons, so I guess I understand.

I guess most people recognize weims, but don't know that they don't come in other colors, and can never pronounce it! I just correct them, and say, yeah, they do look similar... Huh?

Patty isn't a cockapoo....LOTS of people have asked me if she is.

And when I say, "No, she's an American Cocker Spaniel" usually they say, "No, she has to have some poodle in her because my -insert relative/friend- has a cockapoo that looks just like that". Um, well, maybe your mutt just looks like the Cocker parent more than the poodle parent? Duh.

I find it very weird that it's becoming more common for people to recoginize the doodly mixes vs. the real purebreeds out there.
