Daisy Will Be Having Surgery On Wednesday (Need Advise On Daisy's Eye Picture Included)

Last year Daisy went blind, she's been on meds for both her eyes Daisy was doing well with the meds her eyes didn't have alot pressure and weren't red or bulging. Early this morning  I notice her left eye was bulging and really red, I called and got her into the vets today we just got home, I have decided to remove both her eyes.

Daisy vet Dr.Bob is great he talks things out with us and explains them, Daisy has an ulcer in her left eye,he said it looks like she got poked in the eye. I'm guessing she did that in the middle of the night because last night she was fine. Her right eye's pressure was 56 which is high but he said I could continue with the meds but he recommends removing both eyes.

So wednesday morning  Daisy will go in, Today I had him redo blood work and to make sure everything was fine before she was put under since Daisy will be 13 at the end of July I'm worried about that. Her blood work came back great he said.

So please everyone send some good vibes for my Daisy.Sad

    We'll be thinking of you...

Have the vet do her TEETH at the same time -- maximize the surgery and do it all (since she's already under the cost is minimal and it can buy them a long long time).

Foxy had his last surgery when he was well over 18 and he did FINE.  Yeah, this is a big surgery but it should alleviate discomfort for her.  And honestly, it may elminate future problems -- since she's already lost her sight it should help rather than hinder.

    Good luck.  Callie

Thanks everyone, its really sad and I think it's gonna be harder on me then it will be for Daisy, I know I will cry each time I look at her at least for awhile, before she lost her sight Daisy always winked at you, If she was looking at you she would wink then you wink back she'll do it again I miss that.

But this is the best for Daisy really worried about her not making it out going under trying to stay positive. Callie I'll talk to the vet about her teeth as well on wednesday  I will have to worn him that I will be calling alot lol he's not to sure if she'll have to spend the night I really hope she doesn't that will kill me.

    Thanks again

    Good luck Daisy!

I knew a rottie with no eyes, and she did great! She was 7-8ish, I can't remember.

I've known several dogs that've had to have one or both eyes removed for similar reasons, and they were MUCH happier, after the surgery. I hope that Daisy feels lots better, too!

For me that always comes down to whether or not they are supervised at the vet overnight.  I can handle ANYTHING at home including IV fluids.  But if they aren't supervised THERE I can do that better at home.

You will get used to this -- and just remember every time you are tempted to feel blue how much easier this is for HER.  No pressure, no pain.  No drops.

    *Hugs*
