Don't know if this dog is a stray or not

If my dogs are on interceptor, they are protected against several different kinds of worms, right?

Yes, your dogs are protected, but other dogs may not be and people definitely aren't.  Read up on worms here:

Frontline will start killing fleas right away but it takes time to spread over the entire dog (48 hours).  A Capstar tablet from the vet will really hurry things along.

Well DH likes her alot. She may be staying. She did ok in the garage overnight with a fan. Right now I have her in an x-pen in the garage with the door open and the fan. I can see her out the window. She has a vet appt at 4:00, but I picked up a capstar tablet this morning from them and the fleas are dying already. One more night in the garage I think, then I'm going to wash her and bring her in and babygate her in the kitchen tomorrow evening.

She is sweet, just unmannered. Alot of puppy behaviors. She is missing some teeth and others are just coming in, so she's young I think. After the vet, the next big hurdle will be seeing if she gets along with my other dogs and cats.

Oh, I am so glad you got her![sm=dance.gif]

She is SOOOO cute, and what a lucky puppy to be rescued by a wonderful family -- especially at such a young age. The vast majority of her life will be happy and comfortable thanks to you.

Good job and keep the Penny stories coming. I am hooked![align=center]

2shelties - you are an angel :)    Bless your heart for saving this little girl.   She's ADORABLE .... that FACE - I could just squish it up in my hands and give those ears some good rubbins.

Please keep us posted on the vet appt and the introductions to the shelties - I'm hooked too !!!

She's beautiful!  Thanks for saving her.  She'll thank you forever too.

She is inside now. DH brought her in and put her in an x-pen in the kitchen. It was getting dangerously hot in the garage, even with the door open and the fan on. The capstar really did the trick, and it appears that the fleas on her are dead. I'll treat the house if I have to, but I didn't want her having heat stroke in the garage. I also clipped the collar on her that I had bought for the rescue sheltie. My two shelties are crated upstairs. After the vet I'll decide about how to intro.

    ORIGINAL: 2shelties

She took about one bite and backed up, and I was afraid she was going to be too scared, but then she came around to the side of me, crawled in my lap, and started licking my face.

I figured after that sentence she probably had found her new home.  Congratulations!  She is oh so cute.

We're back from the vet, and she checked out ok. Her fecal came back negative for worms, but given her situation he dewormed her anyway. She weighs 15.6 lbs and the vet said she is about 5 months old.

That is amazing!  I expected her to be full of worms.  What did he say about the round belly?  At five months I sure hope that she isn't PG!

He doesn't think she is preggo. He said it is likely that she has worms that didn't show up on the test.

OMG!  Bless you for taking her in.  She's a cutie & has the best ears.  Give her some lovin' from me.

She is too cute for words!!!!

When you do the intro, do it somewhere that the Shelties don't call home.  A neighbor's fenced area perhaps?
Expect the Shelties to be reserved, and depending on the pup's maturity level, they may accept her right away (we call it being on the "puppy license"), or to tell her off and show her who's in charge.  Either way, no blood and you are good to go.  You can have the dogs on drag lines, in case you need to bail one, but don't intro them on a taut leash.
I'd be willing to be this little girl will do just fine.  It may take some time for her to acclimate, but she has a nice expression...and seems like a soft dog.
