I love the name Ansel it is simple and cute, he also looks like an Oakley but I don't think it is German. He is a cu tie anyways!

Okay, I'm in a fix.  I have a German dictionary that I bought at a library book sale, where I've been getting all my words from.  Well, I was looking at an online dictionary, and all the words are completely different!  Like Buckel in my book meant boss, but online it says it means hunchback!  I'm not sure which dictionary to believe.  However, I've found some words in the online dictionary that I like for names:

Suesse  -- I would pronounce it "soos-a", which means sweetness (which is one of my favorite nicknames for him)
Kuemmerling -- "koomer-ling", I would probably call him Kuemmer, which means wimp because he is ;-)

I still like Buckel, Sikke, and Ritz!  But those aren't the same in the online dictionary.  Which one do I trust?

Okay, since no one has piped up with help on this German stuff, I am officially re-christening my Miniature Schnauzer.  What once was Schotzi is now......

Augen!  Actually, Augie for short.  Augen in german means eyes.  And when I take pictures of him, instead of getting red eyes, his eyes turn blue.  So he will now be known as Augie!

    What do you think?

I agree that it wouldn't take long for your pup to get used to a new name, with constant, repetition for a while.  It sounds like you really want to change it too.  Personally, I like Shotzie, but I'm partial to the name...we had a dachshund in the family with that name.  I think the name suits your pup too.

Having said that however.  I love the name Miles (he looks like he could be a Miles).  Also, love the name Rudy...he could pass for a Rudy too.  Hmmm. would your family call him Rude?  [:D]

Okay, I'm fickle.  I've changed my mind.  I'm already having a hard time remembering Augie.  So I'm changing it to Buckel.  I've been thinking about that name for days, and finally found one confirmation that it CAN mean "boss" in German, not just hunchback!  And with it being a familiar word, it'll be easier for me to remember and for the kids to say.  So he's Buckel now!  No more Augie!

It was in my "Langenscheidt Standard Dictionary".  I also found it in one other German-English Dictionary website, but I don't remember which one.  Most of them said that Buckel was Hunchback.

yeah, hunchback would be the appropriate translation as far as i know. but hey.. who says just because i'm german i know everything... just seemed weird to me..
    • Gold Top Dog
well then, we'll just consider him my hunchbacked boss.  [:D]

buckel it is!! either way, i love it!!!!

Wow, and here I thought you were naming him for a belt buckle.  [8D] Boo-kell.
Sorry, maybe I should have mentioned before that dogs come better to a name that ends in a vowel - that's because it carries better when you yell it from far away.  Of course, that is totally dependent on having trained the dog to come in the first place. [;)]
    So, maybe Boo for short?
