Regardless of what folks think the Constitution means, children have no rights.  Children as a whole are devalued in this country.  Social services agencies are overburdened for a number of reasons.  One of those reasons involves spending tax money on services for children be it protection, health care or education.  Individual people value their own children, the society does not value children as a class of people.  And if those children are disabled God please help them if there is a not a strong extended family to help meet their needs for life.  This situation is just another demonstration that the rights of adults always prevail, and the impact on children is downplayed or ignored.

Boy but isn't that the truth, through and through? She even admitted, on Dateline, that she didn't think of them and of what they wanted or might say when she decided to go for her "last set."

    And it shows, too . . .

I just keep wondering about two things.  If her boyfriend was the sperm donor, why didn't they just do this the natural way?  Obviously she has no trouble getting pregnant and he has viable sperm.  And where does an unemployed single mom on state aid get the money for IVF?  I thought that was a pretty expensive road to go down. I don't think most health insurance policies even cover that.

Apparently, she'd gotten pregnant naturally before but ended up with an ectopic pregnancy and then they found that her fallopian tubes were badly scarred and she likely wouldn't get pregnant again naturally. She paid for it all herself. She said she saved every penny she made when she was working. She also received a small inheritance and a lump sum payout for her workers comp injury. She managed to find the money to pay for all this, but she's broke now. the workers comp is over and she even said the disability she's receiving for 2 of the older children will end soon. She didn't seem to have any answers for how she's going to afford to care for these babies until she goes back to school finishes her degree. How she's going to manage working on a degree while caring for 14 young children is sure a mystery to me.

    • Gold Top Dog

Wow.  Even when she gets her degree ... even if she goes on for a Phd ... I don't see how she's going to be able to support 14 kids.  I have neighbors with advanced degrees who couldn't support a group that size.

Part 2 will be on tomorrow.

I don't think she gets "it" (the BIG picture) at all. I feel like she lives in a bubble.

What's going to happen if her Mom's house gets forclosed on???Her parents owe over $20,000 in mortgage payments.

I saw Octomom's father on Oprah yesterday.  He apparently called her to get his chance to speak his peace about his daughter's situation.  Dr. Phil is on now.. gonna go see it.  I haven't really seen her speak.

    • Gold Top Dog

Darnit...work kept interrupting me.  But, she will be back on Dr. Phil along with her mother tomorrow.

Oh look, she was ineligible to adopt - maybe because she is CRAZY. This lady really scares me.

Me too. This is all the government needs...a poster child...to look at her and think, "See? We should be involved in reproductive rights!" Yeah right!

I just don't think she understands anything in the real world- remember she lives with both her parents and they pay most of the bills, not her. I really don't think she could live on her own with the 6 she already had. She doesn't understand the astronomical monetary, physical, and emotional means to properly raising those children.
