mindless chatter - friday

After living in CA, I can't get my stomach around the stuff that most of the chain type places call Mexican food.

Yep, we've got some of the best mexican food around here. It happens to be my favorite too and now I'm hungry for it. I hope your birthday is awesome Glenda!! I also think the double 5s on the lottery ticket might be a sign of something good and we all know you're way overdue for something good.

It's gorgeous again here today. We're only getting into the mid 60s, but I saw that southern calif. is in the 80s. Man, that would sure be nice.

I'm hoping I can talk DH into going furniture shopping this weekend. We've talked about it for a long time but were a little worried that he'd be caught in city layoffs. I don't see that happening though and I'm really beyond sick of our family room furniture. I was thinking of a leather recliner and sofa, but after hearing people talk about the dogs scratching the leather, I think we'll go with something else for the couch. We only allow them up when we've put a doggie blanket down, but I don't think that'll be enough to prevent a scratch from happening.

Talk to the people and maybe you can at least avoid walking at the same time with phone coordination.

Great idea but I am not sure of where they live - I think I know which house, which I may just have to try.  We hadn't seen them in a 2-3 weeks.  It just seems so odd that he reacts this way and I will say that it truly is my worst nightmare.  Even the trainers we have worked with have said he could not be controlled if he were aggressive.

Anyway not going to hog the MC thread with dog stuff - especially on Glenda's birthday.  I just needed to vent about it.

Amanda, what social worker is this? Are you thinking of being a foster parent, or adopting, or somesuch?

Fingers crossed for DH & Bev. Even if they don't win, they'll still be the handsomest ones there, right? Wink

We're looking to adopt.  And yes, DH & Bev will be the most handsome guys there.

    Happy Birthday Glenda! Party!!!

Good grief Karen, I was hoping that the girl decided that it was too much hassle to walk the dog.  Sorry about your poor fingers.  Bugs, go easy on your mom!

Cathy, we have distressed leather in our den.  It's held up really well.  No scratches, puncture holes, or snags of any kind.  It's also easy to clean.

All this talk of smoothies forced me to call DH & ask him to bring me a strawberry smoothie.  We're going out to eat tonight.  It will, no doubt, be Mexican food.

Best wishes for a smooth adoption process! I'm sure once they see how wonderful with your dogs they can't help but infer you'll be wonderful with kids, too. Smile

Seconded! I'll keep my fingers crossed. What does Bevo do at the library?

Courtney, my boss does the all caps thing too! It's like, don't you notice that?! She also has horrible spelling and that just annoys me.

Maybe that's the key. If you have distressed leather, then it wouldn't be a big deal and I love that look. Yep, I'll definitely be checking that out.

Good luck with the adoption Amanda. You'd be an awesome mom and Bev and the others would be great siblings Big Smile

Man, it is hard to work when the weather is nice. When it's rainy, I figure I might as well be at work but not on a gorgeous day like today. My boss keeps talking about retirement. Next to retiring myself, it'd be the next best thing. I'd have a ton of flexibility on my hours and days like today, I'd at least be able to leave early.

What does Bevo do at the library?

    Thanks for the encouragement guys.

We help out with an after school reading program for kids on Tuesdays.  We usually have between 25-30 kids in our group.  Bev goes through & visits while I read to the kids.  Usually about 10-15 minutes into reading, Bevo is asleep on the floor, with kids laying all around him.  He loves the kids & they love him.

My new assistant emails in all caps.  She also texts me using "u" or "ur".  It drives me nuts.  I rarely shorten words, because I'm not 14 anymore.  It really bothers me that she's older than I am, & still doing that.

Happy Birthday, Glenda !! Cake Gift Drinks Enjoy that Mexican lunch and your strawberries.  And if you're planning to take all the stems off, I just learned a really fast, easy way to do it from the produce dude on the noon news.  Get a nice, sturdy drinking straw (the kind you get when you order ice tea or lemonade in a restaurant) and poke it right up through the berry.  When it comes out the stem end, it lifts the stem right off and leaves a nice little tunnel in case you're in a really creative mood and want to stuff them with whipped cream or cream cheese. My 60-something year old mother kept complaining when we'd send her a text message (rather than being caught in a 30-minute meaningless phone convo) because she didn't know HOW to text back.  The other day I got a message that read: "I lrnd 2 txt lol Mom"  Apparently that's all she "lrnd" because she never replied to my response, nor has she sent any further texts... thank goodness!

my mentor used to have this really old phone until recently, that didnt have T9.... i used to get these overly abbreviated messages from him. i mean when he said to meet me in "sbux" in 10 minutes, it took me almost the entire 10 minutes to figure out he meant starbucks... thank god, he bought an iphone. finally i understand his texts...

as for me, i hate capitalizing.. i have tiny hands and pressing shift and the letter key at the same time, is really annoying to me, so i only do it for really official things. in fact i also designed my name card without a single capital letter. who needs "Janet" when they can have "janet"? Stick out tongue

    • Gold Top Dog

T9??  janet, some of us don't have a clue. LOL We are like mirandadobe's Mom and challenged in the texting world.  At least I know where to get help if I ever decide I need to text anyone.  Right here on the forum!  Let's hope it never comes to that...............

    LOL That is funny!

Happy Birthday Glenda and the best for you today and always!

Amanda: I think adoption is amazing and you, your DH and pack will be an awesome family for the future baby!

Karen: Thor sends little kisses for your fingers...

I have to say... I'm a little dissapointed about the winter. Don't know how to explain. I guess, I had a different idea, based on movies and pictures: very far from reality. Anyway, yesterday I was looking at the summer pictures and suddenly needed to see everything green again and flowers. I have had flowers (real flowers) in the house all my life... now I know why some people buy plastic ones Wilted Flower the absense of color is quite deppresing. I really miss this:

Oh well, at least here we feel safe... the situation in Venezuela is so bad, so many deaths and such an obscure future, I can't complain for our decision. Sorry about this, didn't wanted to complain that much.

hahaha!! T9 is a software that makes typing on a cell phone ALMOST as easy and quick as typing on a real keyboard. this means people who have T9 usually text in real words, and people who dont use things like "sbux", "cu", "l8r" or "tmrw"... i've had cell phones for almost 10 years now, and never had one WITHOUT T9....

    • Gold Top Dog

janet, my head is spinning now!!  Thanks though, never hurts to try and keep up with the technology, oh wait, ten years you've had a T9 button?  Well, ten years behind isn't so bad, wish I looked ten years behind my real age. lol

Thor's Mom, I'm sorry it's so colorless for you now.  In my part of Texas, my roses are blooming and my lemon trees, I would feel just like you.  I bet in the Spring you will really appreciate the flowers that come out.  It has to be more spectacular and thrilling when it happens so suddenly form under all the ice and snow. Hope for an early Spring!

    • Gold Top Dog

lol! no worries! you're not missing out on anything... Smile
