Dealing with people taunting your dogs?

Glad to hear the update, though it just is awful to know you can't feel safe in your own neighborhood. Stay safe!

Amanda I would freak out if a psychotic guy lived 8 doors down and openly assaulted me and my dogs.  I think it is more like Anne said and a harassment to you.  Stay away and be careful.  Fortunately I have NEVER encountered this behavior from anyone including children - it is really strange and scary.

I am so glad you reported this. That really is scary and you'll just have to do what you have to for a while to keep yourself and family safe.  That really sucks that he lives so close.  Stay safe!

That is so scarey! I'm so glad you filed a report and got some information on this creep-o!

Yuck! I don't really have any advice other than what you're doing. A lot of times when i have Kais in the car with the window down, people think it's funny to bark at him (why? I'll never figure it out). I've never had that problem though with him actually out, this dude sounds like he's asking for it!!

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh my gosh! That's really scary how psycho and dangerous he turned out to be!!

Geez!  What is with people?  I wish I had any suggestions.  We deal with idiots on our walks too.  One guy stepped slightly off the sidewalk as we past, stood in place, stared at my dog and then leaned over like he was going to pet her.  When she turned her face up toward him, he tried to hit her.  Luckily, I yanked her back just in time.

Someone else I know had some guy walk over to her dog and burn it wtih a cigarette.  No reason...dog wasn't doing anything wrong.  He just decided to burn it.

This stare down makes no sense.  It's a great way to get yourself seriously hurt if he does it to the wrong dog at the wrong time.

    BEVOLASVEGAS

    Just an update.

DH called our neighborhood's security department today to discuss our problems with the person who we now refer to as the "insane guy." Security, told DH that I was am the fourth woman who this guy has hassled in the past two weeks. They gave DH his name, & his address, so now I have an idea where to try to avoid. He lives eight houses down from us.

We went & filed a police report, as have the other women who he has bothered. While talking with the officer, we were told that this guy has been convicted of assault in the past. He was sent to a mental hospital for the assault. The police are trying to find out if he is still under psychiatric care. If he is, as the suspect that he is, then they will share the reports with the psychiatrist.

DH will be running with us in the mornings, & we are going to drive downtown in the evenings to walk the dogs. I'm not thrilled with having to travel to walk the dogs, but I don't feel like it's safe to walk in our neighborhood right now.

I just wanted to say "Thank you" to everyone.  I wouldn't have filed a report had it not been suggested here.

Eeeegads! Take care of yourself. Good for you for reporting this guy. You weren't the fourth person he hassled - you were the fourth person who reported it. Which means he could have been harassing heaven knows how many other people. Ick.

    Stay safe out there!

in cases like this it is best not to stand your ground. just like with any other animal..... there is something seriously wrong upstairs when an animal is looking for a fight for no visible reason....

i'm glad you checked in to reporting this and that you got more info. at least now you know!

I haven't checked the other responses.

You walk DH off leash? Just kidding. But I would have done as he did. A guy thinking he has to face down a dog and "win" is pretty sad indeed. At least the other guy is backing off a bit. Why does he think it's brave to stand up to a dog? He's probably been inundated with the thinking about dominance and dogs.

I would tell the guy that facing off against the dogs, heck, facing off against me isn't brave. It's just plain stupid. Kind of like arguing with a train. The only ones that do that are wanting to die and have just found what they think is a creative way to kick the bucket.

Maybe we should have an i-dog intervention. A bunch of us will go walking with you and stare at the guy and stare him down.

    ETA:

I read the updates. It's ya'll's turn to hound him, so to speak. Inundate the police and the MHMR with info about him. Eventually, though, this guy is going to find that "train," even if it's another person. There are people in this world who don't have the patience that you do and they will dispatch with him as surely as a train would do so.
