I swear sometimes i could slap you- I tried telling you with a  kid everyone needs a cell just incase something happens- you never know these days---- And i also told you to get explorer checked by my  uncle that noise was not the transmission and that something horrible could happen- thank god that someone wasnt coming down the road esp a semi- I am very glad you all are ok- but please start listening to people- i know your hard headed but you owe it to a lil girl!!!!!!

Whoa!  Did I miss something or do you know Kimberly personally?  Regardless, that's kinda harsh.

Kimberly, what an unnerving situation to be in!  But you made the best of it, a good samaritan did his deed for the day (or week or month) and you're all home safe.  Rotten about having the truck towed - and the timing! - but hey, count your blessings girl.

Kim, I'm so glad that you made it home safely!

Bless the guy who came to pick you up.

I'm pretty sure she does know Kim personally.  And, she wasn't harsh at all.

    1. you can never be to harsh when there is  a child involved -- thanks willowchow!!

    2. she knows she is hardheaded and at times should listen more!!!!!

Glad you are OK! What a nightmare!

Wow that is bad 4 miles!

I am worst than you, I HAVE a cell phone which is issued to me through work (they pay for it) but since it's not mine and I don't really get work calls like my colleagues do, often I don't have it with me, or it's off/dead for a week.

Stupid tow truck people. It's gonna cost 140 bucks to get the explorer back. Oh and another 25 for everyday it sits there. Also that 140 dollars doesnt include getting it home. That is another 75 freakin dollars. Ahhhhhhhhh.

Anyways everyone thinks it's a ball joint whatever that is not the transmission. So if it's that we can scrap up the money for it to get fixed. If it's the transmission we wont be able to get it fixed till taxes.

Have I mentioned how much I hate cars? I think I have in another post a while back.

I need the explorer to get to shows. Errrr. When does it end?!!

In our local paper we used to have a Pats(on the back) and Pokes(with a sharp stick) section.  You could send in notes for people with no names, just to give them recognition for good deeds or complain about someone doing something that really ticked you off.  That's the kind of thing that would be nice in the Pats section, especially around Xmas.

I had a 1998 Explorer, the ball joints and stabilizer links went.....my Dad fixed it (he used to be a mechanic), but it was a pretty big, tough job.

We have a 1997 Explorer that I'm thankful right now DH drives. Is the ball joint problem common?

Mine is a 95. How much did that run you if you dont mind me asking?

    • Gold Top Dog

If you go to autozone.com you can price the parts. For the ball joints I needed 2 uppers, 2 lowers, about $180....but again, my Dad did all the work.

Cakana- Yes, these problems are super common in Explorers.

Just to add mine is a 95 also. I'll be on the lookout for this problem... *sigh*

wow!! that sucks!! I'm happy you weren't hurt in the chaos of what i'm assuming was a tire blowing out. especially in that weather!

for me I dunno if I would've gotten in the van, thats just me though. These days i'm so much more aware of people & stuff. it's the training. But I'm happy to hear you made it home safe & sound. :)

oh just read. ball joint. still happy everything ended up ok!!

That sucks!  I find stuff ALWAYS happens right before the holidays, there is always something...every year.

I'm glad you are okay. You made the best of a bad situation, I would be nervous letting my children in the car with a stranger, but you know, I think the dogs were probably a good a deterrent towards someone who might have evil intentions.
