    Mindless Chatter - TGIF

I bought a new camera last night! However, I am taking it back. I took the leap to DSLR land. I got the Canon Rebel XS. However, I didn't realize that it didn't take video! I thought that I read somewhere that it did. Well, it doesn't and I am seriously bummed. I have to have a camera that does video. So, I'm taking it back to exchange it for something else. I'll lose 15% in "restocking fees". They get you coming and going....

That's the camera I have, and I love it. I was also bummed about the video, or lack there of, but decided to buy a real video camera instead (still haven't done it though!)

So yesterday sucked, I got an e-mail from my Mom in the middle of a work crisis saying my grandmother was in the hospital in Houston. Then later that night my younger sister collapsed at her college and was rushed to the ER. Luna is slightly lame, and we are resting her, but I need get her to the lameness expert in Ithaca if she's not right in another day. I am hoping she just needs a chiro adjustment, but we'll see.

TGIF is all I have to say. TGIF people!

Oh Julie!  I have been jonesing for a camera for months and months and lots of people keep telling me to go to a DSLR - but I am pretty set on Canon SX10 or Panasonic FZ28.  Not sure about the Canon but the Panasonic takes HD video.  Been saving my pennies and looking for the best price and feel just about ready to buy.  Things have been tight here and I am one of those people that get stressed about buying stuff. Sad really Geeked

aaahhhhhhhhh we woke up to snow this morning.  This is an extraordinary event in North Carolina so I went out with Bugsy and played in it. Its over now and melting fast but he ate lots of it and was catching snowflakes which was cute.  Of course none of the pics with my point and shoot came out decent - must by better camera (see above) LOL

I really could have done with a good dump of snow

I went in to buy the SX10 but let myself be talked in to the DSLR (which wasn't hard). Everyone says dslr dslr dslr! Well, yes it takes some great photos (I tested it last night), but if it doesn't do everything I want then it's not worth the money. I will down grade to the SX10 today. It'll be MUCH cheaper considering I won't have to buy extra lenses and such. Those lenses don't come cheap and the lense that came with the Rebel is .....eh. Not too thrilling. I already wanted a new lense last night and I had only had it out of the box for a couple of hours! That can get expensive fast. Plus I just don't want to have to change lenses around all that much.

Hmm, would it be terrible to ask for pictures of all these great cameras everyone's talking about? I can at least sit and dream while my kodak easyshare does the job for now.

Yay, it IS friday!! My oldest son comes home for Thanksgiving break today. DH is going to pick him up after work. I am NOT looking forward to the pile of laundry he manages to bring home though. He texted me yesterday from a friends phone, he dropped his in the toilet. There hasn't been a trip home yet where the phone or laptop hasn't had to go in for repair. He picks up his laptop on Saturday. What is it about this kid that him and technology just don't mix...

On a more strange note, I cut back on the dog's portion of food this morning and they seem almost happier to have eaten less. Anyone else ever experience this? It's strange to say the least. I gave them smaller portions because they've been having some stomach upsets the past few days.

Oh I know - thing is I wouldn't know how to use it to its full extent, its bigger, doesn't do video, and I have to buy all the extras - including the lenses.  I am sure that what they call the superzoom class is more than enough for me to take pictures of Bugsy Big Smile

3girls Kodak has a real nice camera out too in this class Z1015 or the Z1012 which is being closed out.

I am back at the PC because I went out to take B for his walk and that freakin' cat was on our step again.  Has to be the dumbest animal on earth. So he is a dog on crack having nearly missed it again he has to check every spot its been in a frenetic, crazed hunt.  Will make for an interesting walk - prong collar I think Tongue Tied

and I am so bummed he rolled over and I was rubbing his belly and I noticed that his new jacket has cut both his underarms enough to bleed AND HE NEVER SHOWED ANY DISCOMFORT!  I tell you he may not have pain sensitive nerve endings.  So jacket goes back today Sad

Oh no he's back in, pray for me on this walk that I come back with both arms still attached Indifferent

Bugsy Bugsy Bugsy - he's so naughty. If he's good at hunting raccoons I've got a spot for him - the little jerks come on our patio!! I don't think Pirate's wimpy bark scares them at all.

    Payday payday - whoo-hoo!!

Bugsy, surprise your mom & behave really nicely today!

Meg, I'll send you Shooter.  He'll be thrilled to take care of the raccoons for you!

Our 6 year old nephew is coming to spend the week with us.  He gets here Sunday morning.  DH & I are so excited!

I said this for so long and within a week of using a DSLR I knew I could never go back.  Last week I sold my super zoom and all it's accessories.  The camera, mounted flash, good lens I want, and accessories (bag, memory, etc) will probably cost me about $800.  Not bad!  The lower Nikon DSLRs all come with a lens and many stores like Cameta sell them as a "kit" (you get the body, multiple lenses, memory, bag, etc all at once).

I could marry my Nikon 55-200mm VR lens!  The key is the "VR".  It really does make all the difference.  Not sure if they work on Canons or not.  I get sharper, better pics with my $200 VR lens on a D40x body than my friend does on her $3000 pro camera with a $1500 lens.  The DSLR I am using now came with different lenses and I don't really use anything but that one lens.  If you buy from a place like Cameta rather than a store, you can get a better deal and find a kit package that has what you want (and nothing you don't want).

I just smacked myself in my eye (outside corner right on the bone) with my phone hand set!  How does that happen?  LOL I hit it so hard I'm tearing up, I hope I don't get a shiner...

My boss just had to RUN out of here, her daughter's school phoned and said she is doubled over in pain and they think it's appendicitis, so now my boss is rushing to her school to take her to emergency.  Why won't the school take her and tell the mother where she is, rather than have her frantically trying to get her there???  Ugh.  What a day..

i read an article about that camera yesterday. it sounds pretty awesome, but way outta my price range! :D

i have been looking seriously at the d60 though. depending on if & how much of a bonus i get this year, i think i want to make the jump into dslr. i really love my old 35mm slr, but getting film developed sucks. i like shooting action shots (but i suck at it!) and i maybe get 1 or 2 pics out of a roll of  film that are worth a crap.

i bought a little pocket sized p&s a while back. i really like the portability of it, but everyone needs at least 2 cameras right? :D
