Like others have mentioned, before we had Riley nearly all of our relatives and everyone we met would say that Charlie better learn his place because he won't be important once the baby came.
Well, the baby came and let me tell you they are so wrong. Even my mother has commented that it is amazing that we didn't let our commitment to Charlie waver and in many ways deepened.
I will tell you DH isn't the one getting up with me in the middle of the night when I nurse Riley or rock her when she is fussy, Charlie does. He gets out of bed with me and sits next to me on the couch and licks Riley's feet which honestly soothes her. He sits or lays next to her on the couch when we have her propped up. We never tried to keep him away from her but encouraged him to be a part of her world.
I know the article was done with a bit of tongue and cheek but I can't imagine feeling the way the author does/did. Here is a picture of my favorite boy and girl!
