Pet shop on fire...

    Pet shop on fire...

in my town.  It's a small local store that sells cats and dogs, so I'm not a fan and don't patronize the store, but it's on fire.  Badly today.  The latest report says:

    8:37 a.m.

Fire fighters say the fire at Delilah's Pet Shop will probably be an all-day affair. The intersection at 1320 N. College remains closed as at least six fire trucks battle the blaze.

It now looks as if about a dozen of the pet shop's 30 cats and dogs were rescued. They were taken to the Arlington Heights Veterinary Hospital.

    7:25 a.m.

Bloomington firefighters are battling a major fire at Delilah’s Pet Shop at 1320 North College.

The Fire Department was notified of the blaze when a passerby noticed smoke billowing from the building. Bloomington police officers have been able to save about 18 pets so far, and are trying to save more from inside the building.

The intersection at College Ave. and North College is closed. Updates will follow.

Please think about the poor cats and dogs that did not make it out today.  Sad

    Run free kitties and puppies....

Oh.....god.  My heart goes out to all those poor animals.

How awful! Poor little things. I guess the best we can hope for is that the smoke ended things quickly for them. Run free little darlings.

Oh my.  This is heartbreaking.  Run free little ones!

This is so terrible, my heart just sinks at the news of this.  Poor puppies and kitties, run free.

I am glad to read that the surivivors were taken to an area vet hospital, they will require care, some long term care.

I'm no fan of Delilah's either and not so secretly hope that they won't be able to rebuild after this, but boy my heart aches for the animals that suffered in this fire....

22 cats and dogs and untold numbers of fish went to the rainbow bridge this morning.  :(  Only 9 dogs and 3 cats were saved by one firefighter early on the scene.

stardog85, I too hope they can not rebuild.

    Wow that's just...well words can't describe really.

What an amazing firefighter to have actually gone in and saved some though, not everyone would've taken that risk.

I want to thank that ONE first responder who took the chance to save the lives that he/she did.

That was a brave firefighter who saved the ones he could!  I have a lot of day to day dealings with the Fire Department here locally and sometimes I get a little bad attitude about them but this type of thing really makes me appreciate the fact that there are some truly incredible firefighters and law enforcement people who risk their lives for animals.

So sad.... I only hope that the smoke got to them first and they didn't suffer, although, obviously I wish it hadn't happened at all. Run free little ones!!! :(

Bloomington, IN, right? I worked in animal control in that town for a few years and we had numerous animals relinquished to us that were originally bought from that store. My little mini schnauzer is one such dog! I'll keep those animals that lost their lives in my thoughts tonite...

Can't seem to edit my previous post, so... I just went to the Bloomington Herald Times website and the photos are just devastating. No way could any animal survive that blaze if not gotten out immediately, and as another poster said, I only hope that they died of smoke inhalation before the flames reached them...

I drove by last night on my way home.  Very very sad.
