Little rant about dog tags.

Jake gets the standard NAME,ADDRESS,PHONE# on his tag (I can't remember if my name is engraved on it, lol). A positive part of having the name on the tag would also make it easier for the person who finds him to control him. If he's going crazy with glee (he loves people) and they want him to calm down, they'll say "sit" but he won't respond. If they see his name on his tag and say "Jake, sit", he'll perk his ears at "Jake" and will listen to the command that comes after it, and therefore will sit. And if the dog is crazy and uncontrollable, the person might feel less willing to bring him home and call the number on the tag, lol (but of course, that's just an extreme possibility)

Shari's has her name, phone number, and "needs eye medication" on it.  I am a light sleeper, so the collar comes off at night.  When I take it off her, she knows it's bed time.

I like it when I find a dog w/a name on its tag so I can call it by name, thus increasing its chances of trusting me enough until I can get it home.

    Max's tag reads:

    Max
My 1st. initial & last name
    Full address
    Phone #

A few years ago I saw a really neat travel tag. It was a small vial that hooked onto the collar and inside was a rolled paper to write your name & info and the name & address of who you're visiting. Of course, I can't remember where I saw it.[;)]

even our cats have tags and they never leave the house (except for vet visits).

    cat tags:
    their name
    city, state
    home phone #

    amelia:
    her name
    city, state
    home phone #
her microchip number (when we got her not many places around here had the scanners, so we put her mc # on her tag and just havent updated it yet.)

    sydney:
    his name
    city, state
    home phone #
    "micro-chipped"

i say the more info you can fit on there the better. i have never worried about someone stealing either of our dogs. mostly because that just doesnt seem to happen too much around here.

Rabies tags are required here too and if we go to a park or anything, their regular collars and tags go on too for safety.  Their name tags have their name, our address and phone number on them.  We need to update those too, actually.  I should put my cell on them now....

I need to order new tags once we move, but the current ones have:

    Front:
    Name
If I'm alone, I'm lost. Scan for microchip.
    home phone number

    Back:
    My cell
    Brett's cell
    Vet's number
    Number to contact microchip company
    My parent's number

    Yes, I'm obsessive. lol

The cats have similar info except their tags are smaller so it has their name, scan for microchip, and home phone in the front and similar phone numbers as the dogs' tags on the back.  We have to have rabies tags on the dogs, and the city I live in now also requires a city license, so the dogs have three tags and the cats have two. Once we move, everyone will just have two tags.

I purchased a tag from [linkhttp://www.doggydmv.com]www.doggydmv.com[/link] that looks like a miniture driver's licence. It has everything on it. It's tooooooo cute. I tell everyone that my dog now drives me around :-)

    Emma's tag says:
          EMMA
         (my cell)
          NEEDS
    MEDICATION
    DO NOT FEED

Teenie actually doesn't have a tag, yet. I know, I'm awful. I'm getting her chipped, next week, though....

    Mine have:

    Name
    Address
    City, Province
    Phone    Cell

I want to get the new ones so that I can add "Scan for Microchip" although only one microchip is actually readable.... I have to get the US one replaced... *sigh*

My dogs have two id tags on them, plus their microchip tags. I'm not exactly sure what is on Millie's, because she isn't down here with me, but I just checked Max's
    Tag #1
    Max Home Phone #
My mom's cell # and Street Address
My cell # and Zip Code
    Tag#2
    Max
    Last Name
    Home Phone #
    Address
Tag #1 is starting to get rubbed a little too much for my liking, and I will probably check the condition of Millie's and replace any of on her that are getting too rubbed up all at the same time. We have rabies, lifetime license, and shelter tags for Millie, and I should get Max the lifetime license as well. Maybe I will send in the paperwork for his lifetime license, and then I can get the info from all their licenses, microchip, and rabies tags all on one tag, and then do a second with our contact info.

Shadow's tag has his name and my house phone number on it. I'm considering changing it to my cell phone, as that's always with me. Also, when he gets his vacc update this year, that will go on the collar, as well. If he were lost and someone found him, they would not only know who to call but that he is current on his shots, as well.
I definitely think at least the name of the dog and a phone number. If it's big enough, owner's name and address.

Ok, i'm looking at new tags for Max and Millie, and i'm having trouble deciding what to put on them. They can be engraved on both sides, so obviously i'm gonna do that instead of getting two tags.
Here's what i'm gonna put on side 1 for Max
    Max last name
    I have a microchip
    home phone
    my mom's cell phone
    Street and City
    State
    Back
I'm not sure what to put on the back of his at all, but it's 14 characters for line 1, 18 for line 2, 20 for line 3, 25 for line 4, 20 on line 5, and 2 for line 6.
    Side 1 for Millie
    Millie
Last name because it doesn't fit on line 1 for her
and the rest of the lines will be the same
    Back of Millie's tag
    NEEDS MEDS
    I HAVE A MICROCHIP

Then I have the same other lines as on Max's.
Other things i'm consider are the microchip brands and #s, my cell #, the vet's # or the training facility (Thinking that if some reason we couldn't pick them up right away, and whoever found them couldn't hold them until we picked them up, both places have boarding, and hopefully could keep them until we got there to pick them up. I almost had to take a dog that I found to its vet a few weeks ago because I couldn't get in touch with the owners, and there was no way I could take it home). Or anything else that might be good.

I don't see why someone wouldn't put the dogs name on the tag...

    Sierra's reads:

    SIERRA
    Home Phone #
    City, Province

I used to put the address on as well, but I kept moving so many times... and since the phone number stays the same, as well as the city, I found this much better.

But I agree.. if someone were to find her, it would be much easier for them to control her (and get her back to me!) if they knew her name.  She will respond to her name, no matter who says it.

Jen, which site are you looking at. Looks like you can get a lot of info on the tags, that's what I have been trying to find. Presently the tags on my dogs only have phone # on them. I bought 6 tags ( or more) for all 3 dogs, sooo, no names. I will update them now.

I think the Name on there helps alot. I live on a military base and ALOT of pets manage to get loose. I've come across a few regulars that like my backyard and I think having the name would help the dog feel less afraid of you personaly by callin them by it. I dont know if thats a true statement but thats what I feel.

Address definately because hmmm then you know where to take the dog lol. Phone incase the persons not home you could leave a message and so forth.

Mines got the 'Takemehome.com' tags that I got from our vet. Which when they go to the site and type in the code all our information shows up and I can change it everytime we move. And im highly thinking about getting the V-Chip put in him just because in our lifetime we will moving around alot.
