I had an affair today (Brought the Boy Home...See Pics in Photo Section)

With a gorgeous male GSD (approx 1 year old). OMG, I am in love! I was shopping at Petsmart and they were having their adoptions. The minute I saw him...I said to myself "there he is, Heidi's little brother." I must have spent 1/2 hour with him and talking to the shelter folks. I had to run though to pick up my mom. I want this dog. I've been wanting to rescue the next dog I get too.

Of course, I can't bring him home against DHs wishes. But, I called him after I left and gently brought up the subject. First thing he said was "with all the stress we've had with Heidi!" I agreed with him (wink wink) and said that a younger dog will help Heidi.

This boy looks good, he was calm amoungst the chaos...great gums/teeth, good clear eyes nice looking ears. He was neutered of course, but recently. I'm a believer in waiting...but close enough to a year is fine.

I should have taken a picture of him on my phone...stupid, stupid, stupid me. But, he is mostly black with brown legs, brown ears and some on his face; medium length coat. He looks darn close to a pure bred to me. He was found roaming the streets back at the end of August. Plenty of time for the owners to look for him. So, now he's up for adoption.

Something told me as I was on my way to Petsmart that I would run into the male I wanted. Somebody "upstairs".

Now, to gently pursuade my DH that we need him. Please pray for me, send good pursuasive thoughts to my house.

Man I've been absolutely DYING to get a second dog for Kane. I just can't afford the time or extra money to care for another. My hands are full enough as it is.

I hear ya. My hands are full too. But, Heidi needs to expend energy and although I do a good job of exercising her...I feel she would benefit from good ole rough housing with a dog closer to her age. We have the yard for it. And, I feel my elderly dog, Buddy would appreciate it.

Not even sure if this will work out. I need DH's blessing and although he hasn't come right out and said NO, I know that's how he feels. He's working today and I've called him a couple of times...he really doesn't have the time to focus on it. Sigh.

I have 40 minutes before the adoption closes today. After that, it will be Monday before I can see the boy again. We'll see what happens.

Best of luck!

I'm DYING to add a second Lab to our family! But, Jeremy won't have it, at least until we get a bigger place. I want another adult Lab (of course another rescue dog).

And I bet you have good instincts, too. It sounds like this dog (from your description, he might have been from a german line) would be great with your family. Good luck with your DH and I really wish the best. Some dogs you are just meant to be with.

I was about to get maudlin and link in a love song that I would dedicate to heart dogs everywhere. Oh well, why not?

Keep all fingers and paws crossed. DH is considering the addition. If I play my cards right and don't hound him...we may have a lil brudder.

waaaaa I'm envious Seriously good luck I really do hope it works out for you - I have been asking for about a year now to add a dog and have gotten no where so when someone else has success I feel little success too!

Was at petsmart myself yesterday seen a lady with a beatiful great dane, funny because last week read in the newspaper great dane puppies and whenever I see any good I'm like a little kid awww look at that dog and most of the time I'm like puppy even when the dog isn't even a puppy.

The great dane was a merle omg I wanted the dog, she was I believe she said 8 or 9 months she was selling it for $900 said she paid $1800 from a pet store but right off the bat all I was thinking beside omg how beautiful the dog was but omg it's way to skinny I mean you seen it's bones I even said aww your sooo skinny I was like if I didn't lose my dog almost a year ago and now paying for Daisy I would be interested in her dog,

Then she's like yea we are having a hard time selling her, but we have 2 little kids and she's too big, I looked at her weird lol and was thinking to myself you knew the dog was going to be that big why would you buy a dog that you were just gonna get rid of anyway. Also when I got out of my car and closed the door the dog was very skiddish . I was gonna ask if I could take a picture of the dog but didn't ask, but that dog was beautiful.

DH started asking lots of questions, showing real interest. Even asked if the shelter was open on Sunday to go take a look. I took that ball and ran with it.

New boy (need name help) is home now. I've got a couple of pictures and the introduction video to Heidi and Buddy in the Photo Section.
