I try not to let it bug me, I mean afterall, they don't know right? So I try to correct people and not let it get to me.

True, and honestly it doesn't bug me very often, I just think it's weird since it's not like I have some rare, nobody ever hears it, kind of name. But when it happens several times in one week..it does kind of get to me. Especially if I'm PMS'ing and grumpy anyway, LOL. I'm actually starting to wonder if there's some suddenly famous Chelsia I'm missing.

What actually DOES bug me though is Chelsea spelled wrong, like Chelsey, or Chelsie, or Chelsi, or grrr, whatever else people can come up with. Worse though was when my Mom said if she'd thought to spell it Chelsi, she would have, because she likes that better than Chelsea. I wonder if I'd have a totally different mindset if I was Chelsi, or if it would still bother me..lol. I guess no one would ever add an extra syllable to my name though if it was Chelsi.

Weird about the Kelsey spelled Chelsea, Chuffy. I've never heard that. I have been called Kelsey before, but that's from mishearing what is said, not when they read it.

Edit: AHA! There's a Chelsia on Big Brother! Maybe that's what it is. People hear it said, and then see Chelsea written, and think it must be the same. Still silly, but makes sense I guess.

My first name is Alexis. I get called Alex all the time though..so much so that Alex is now my nickname. I mean...do you think you get to just leave letters off of someone's name if you don't like it? Jeez..

I rarely get my name mispronounced… though I ALWAYS get mail for “Sheily” and I have no idea why.Confused

Like "Mandy" Big Smile, I hate having my named shortened unless I like you. My Dh’s ex wife calls me “Shel” all the time and it drives me NUTS. Seeing as how I don’t like her and all, I feel our relationship is such that she hasn’t earned that right!Wink

People call me Chels a lot, and that doesn't bug me at all. I often call people by the first syllable of their name (including pets.. Kovu becomes Kov, Tiger-Lily become Tige, Cherokee becomes Chair or Chairk..lol). But Alex from from Alexis..I mean it's not like your name actually starts with Alex when you say it..if it were Alexandra, then that makes more sense..but..I'd be more likely to call an Alexis Lex or something, ya know? Not without okaying it first though, lol.

And my last name is so simple and such a basic noun in the english language that I have not found another way to spell in the american usage dictionary and I have never encountered another person with the same last name who spells it differently. Yet, 4 times in my life, someone has asked me to spell it, including a pharmacy assistant who had helped me previously.

I understand your gripe, and you are certainly entitled to it.

oh, dont even get me started on spelling my name!!!! there's like 10 different ways to spell my name (seriously, i counted!) and i have seen them ALL!! when i used to get books from the school library, and they'd ask my name i'd say "janet, J-A-N-E-T" they look at me, and write down jeanette or janette or whatever version was in their head... i mean DUDE!!! i JUST spelled it for you! so i'd give them back the library card to correct it. not that it matters, but it just pissed me off.. if you dont know, ok. i understand. but i JUST FREAKING SPELLED IT OUT FOR YOU! it IS the shortest way to spell it, ya know!!! STOP ADDING LETTERS!

can you tell that bugs me? lol....

for what it's worth the chinese name i chose is almost always written with the right characters, which for a chinese name is very rare, so i'm thankful for that!

People mispronounce my name daily. It's Marlania...pronounced mar-lan-uh. I get everything from mar-lay-na, mar-lahn-ee-uh...and then some huge screw ups like mar-la-sha. Not sure how they get that one...

Because Brett's last name is ridiculous, I use my maiden name at work. My students still murder that, even those I've taught more than once.
