Neighbor's Dog Looks Lost And Lonely. :(

Not one of them walk their dogs, yet I know each and every one, with the exception of  Phoebe who is new,  has and is well taken care of and loved.

if they aren't being walked/exercised they simply are NOT being well taken care. Loved, sure. But that's not enough. I see "loved" obese unhealthy never-exercised dogs standing around in the vets parking lot all the time.

The key there is "exercised", not "walked".

My friends who show their Bull Terrier are rarely seen in their neighborhood just out walking their dogs.  They have a huge property with fenced areas that they run them on, and they load the dog in the car and take him to the beach for specific conditioning.  They're getting a treadmill last I knew.  But they don't walk their dogs around the neighborhood.

You may catch me walking Jada and Gracie (often late at night), but never Achilles.  Our new neighbors at the new house bring their dogs out for their walk at 10:30pm.

I never said they were not exercised, just that they were never walked. None of them are obese, let alone overweight, the older dogs are 13, 10 and 9 the younger dogs are 1, 1 and 4 months.

I only walk Kord twice a week, 4 miles each day, but not if its raining, snowing, freezing, hot as hades or humid, so there are weeks here and there where he does not go for walks at all.

All I was pointing out was that you cannot, or should not, base the level of care of a dog, on whether or not it is walked.

I disagree. I don't consider "walks" to be exercise in any way but daily sniff everything local area walks are essential for doggy mental health. If you're lucky enough to have a property large enough to take a 20-minute walk that's great. Most people don't. Running on a treadmill is no substitute for getting out and sniffing.

    I'll second that.
