What do you think about purchasing pets online?

I'm an old dog person.  Many moons ago I did breed cockers. Even then we did some rescue and fostering, but THEN I managed to find homes for everyone.

Since March of 2005 I've fostered two litters of german shepherds.  I own german shepherds so everyone fits together nicely.  I actually just placed one of my girls from the first litter in January.  She and her younger foster brother went to an idogger downstate from me.  Another idogger in NH took one of the two girls from our younger litter.  My son was home for Thanksgiving and delivered her when he went home.  Or rather Mary drove to upstate NY to pick her up.  As you cruise around the board you will see references to Molly and then comments like why Mary didn't post about the bear encounter sooner cuz she didn't want to put me in heart failure!  Now, Mary I had never phyically met, but I'd followed the tale of her Sadie dawg and the lengths this woman went to for her girl and I knew she'd be an excellent mom.  She is.  And although I met Lori the day she met the pups, I knew with her as well that my babies would be in the best home around.  But in general, when I'm placing a pup, I absolutely want to know exactly WHO people are and what they are about.

All but two of the latest bunch are in forever homes now.  One boy went to a new home and bounced back, which is fine cuz he's a sweetheart except to his brother who also thinks I'm the best thing since sliced bread.  Not real likely either will ever leave.  And we still have  one boy from our older fosters.  I'm a total failure at fostering!  I end up keeping too many!  So, we know have SIX german shepherds.  And their food bill is higher than OURS!  [:D]

Right now we are on four plus acres.  When we move next month we'll be surrounded by NOTHING.  Not a ton of the land is ours, just about an acre, but our closest neighbor is 300 acres away.

They have a fenced run now and the new house already has one as well.  That's their potty/play outside alone area and we take them for long runs off leash or on drag lines depending on the dog, every other day if I'm feeling lazy, every day when I can do it.  I REALLY like when they do some running and leave their deposits out in the fields!  Let's just say its a really GOOD thing that I recycle most everything and have very LITTLE household trash.  Makes plenty of room for the mounds of poop!

Careful where you toss your hat around here....it might come back well chewed!

I'm a HUGE sucker for anything furry.  Soft heart and most likely a soft head to match!

I was referred to my pup's breeder by somebody who who knows her personally... the thing is, the breeder lives in Canada, so I couldn't really meet her.

She totally grilled me for information, as I did the same to her. She asked me about my training experience and dog-owning experience, and said "a corgi is not for everyone blah blah blah..." but in the end, I was chosen to be Shippo's new owner.

There is a lifetime puppy contract, stating that he has to be neutered, treated properly, not bred or I get fined and she takes him back etc.

He was shipped from Canada, he has champion parents, etc.

He's a very good dog... but it was a pain with the shipping and stuff and I would've liked to meet him beforehand... I'll probably go to a rescue again next time.

    Good Story astaracheetah

Why did the breeder demand he be neutered?

My fosters were all placed with a spay/nueter stipulation as were any of my cockers that were not show quality.  And those pups, I think it was 2 years that folks had to decide what they were going to do with them.

This world does NOT need more pet quality pups or those of mixed breeds.  Too many pups are dying every day in shelters for want of a good and loving forever home.

So if the traits were good you wouldn't sell them or would you sell them at a higher price?[8|]

I kept very few of my pups.  My show quality pups (stupid me) brought the same price as the pet quality, but the show pups went to people who wanted to show, not who just wanted an adorable cocker spaniel puppy.  We were very active in the breed club so had a wide circle of show folks around

What made you leave the show circuit?

Honestly?  I never did show.  It was too political for my blood and I'm not a very good butt kisser. However, I did have friends who were AKC judges, I had the opinions of a number of very successful breeders that my dogs had the right stuff to breed, so in that sense I suppose I could have been called a backyard breeder.  However, we did all the health testing, etc, so in that sense, did everything correctly.
