    GAME - Just ONE thing

This should be sort of fun, but hopefully educational too... I'm sure new dog owners out there will benefit we'll probably pick up a ton of tips from each other as well.  Let's see how long we can keep it going?

Give us ONE piece of advice for a new puppy buyer...

    Rules:

    1. JUST ONE!  No cheating!

    2. Keep it short and snappy and all your own words Smile

    3. Don't pick one that someone else has already done before you, but you can expand on previous words of wisdom if you want.

    GO!

    Big Smile

-Dont buy a dog from a BYB

get a crate! it will keep you sane!

Get a kong.. (Or two!) and freeze them! They will help keep you sane during the teething stage! And help protect the furniture!

Research the breed before you buy!

Let the pup sleep in your room at first.

The  "sleepy vibes" in the room will help him to settle and your nearness will reassure him.  I know not everyone likes dogs in bedrooms, but if he has a crate this can be moved away gradually once he has settled in to your home Smile

house training: don't scold the pup for going inside the house! it will teach them that going in front of you is bad.

    Take time off work.

A young puppy will demand and need loads of attention for a while so take some time off work or you will be exhausted.

When adding a second dog, make sure the first one is well trained and settled. Emma is doing a fine job of teaching the puppy manners.

Dogs don't speak English, so make sure you take the time to actually teach them what you mean when you say things, instead of just expecting them to magically understand you. It will pay off, big time!

    Cute thread idea, Chuffy :)
