What are your dogs doing right now....inside? What are they doing sitting in the house while your sitting on the computer? Besides sitting in your company being next to you?

And you know WHY my dog is sleeping quietly, under my chair? Because we walked for half an hour this morning, and then played fetch for 15 minutes, and clicker trained for another half an hour. When I went to work, he had his lunch from a kong. He is resting, because today he's been exercised enough (both physically AND mentally) to be tired! (And please note, he's a 20 lb. mixed breed, a dog I specifically picked because I knew I could meet his needs.)

cause im not going to play with him inside period.

Seriously? You plan on exercising a dog outside in 90* plus weather? Wow, way to set yourself up to give the dog heatstroke. Or do you not plan to exercise the dog at all? Since, you know, he'll just follow you around and stuff. Since dogs are such good basketball players, I'm sure he'll LOVE to play basketball with you.

On top of that pitbulls are always cute.

Oh, gag. You know what ISN'T cute? When your dog, who, frustrated with being tethered all of his life, goes and bites some unsuspecting person. And now YOU (oh, wait...your parents, right?) pay for this person to go to the ER, and this person will be scarred for the rest of their life. Then you'll be SO HORRIFIED that this happened, and be the one saying how wrong it is AC is taking your dog.

Honestly, you think that folks would learn from their mistakes.

Are you giving your dog attention right now as your reading this?? NO. your dog is sitting probly at your feet while you watch tv, or search google.

That's not the point though.  Right now both my dogs are wandering around the house.  But the point is that with them inside, I know they are not suffering from heat stroke, I know they are not being chewed on and tormented by flies, mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas, I know that they are not being pestered by dangerous wildlife, I know they aren't chewing on a chain trying to escape, I know they aren't neurotically digging holes, I know they aren't being harassed by neighbors and people walking by.  I used to live in a neighborhood where every house on the block had a pit bull or rottweiler chained in their backyard.  They were constantly pestered by bugs, panting all day long in the heat and humidity, digging holes neurotically out of boredom and frustration, and being teased by people passing by.

You've sort of made my point.  The dog doesn't really do anything different when it's indoors, so why keep it out when it's so much safer and more comfortable inside?  If the dog is going to lay at your feet, I don't see the problem.  If it's going to be an outdoor dog, build a safe, enclosed run that is covered on top and treated for parasites.

Since u guys inssit on making this thread about tieing the dog up..

If you look back at my original post I did not try to talk you into bringing the dog into your house but rather I (as several others also did) try to give you suggestions that would make things better for you and your dog as he lived outside!!

Good question!  Well right now both of my dogs are outside with my daughter but I get your point.  I currently have two dogs one is getting pretty old (12-14 years) and the other is still a pup.  While they are in the house of course the older one does like to sleep and rest but the pup loves to play.  The pup (8 months old) has a variety of toys that he likes to play with in the house and is always up for a game of tug of war.  He is also learning how to fit in with his "pack" which in his case is made up of us humans, a cat, a bearded dragon and of course the older dog.  While he is in the house we work on obedience and he is learning his "house manners".  In the evening both dogs do enjoy sitting with us if we are watching TV and of course the pup enjoys more playing.  That interaction has of course helped them form their bonds with us.  I had asked you earlier what what purpose you envisioned the dog fulfilling so I suppose I should tell you the purpose or "jobs" that our dogs have.  The older dogs "job" is that of a guard dog/companion dog.  She is a large dog that is well suited for and enjoys the "protection" role.  NO she is not an "attack" dog in any way shape or form nor is she permitted to display any aggression other then barking to let us know if there is some one here.  Of course once we acknowledge her warnings she must then stop barking and she happily greets any that we allow into our house.  Our "pup" is a smaller dog and his primary job is to be a companion for all of us but primarily for my special needs daughter.  He is teaching her how to accept smaller dogs (she has always had a fear of small dogs).  So far he is loving that job!  Both me and my daughter work out of the house (well actually out of the garage and the house) so we are with the dogs all day.  Of course they both get their daily walks and play time outside also.

Bringing the dog inside is not going to give him much more attention then he is going to get outside.

    OOOOOK........this makes so much sense.....wow....

Right now he's laying on his dog bed, in the A/C. It's hot/humid outside and will probably thunderstorm soon.
He's pretty tired because this morning we went for a 1 hour walk and potty, then we went to the park for 2 and a half hours where he played with other dogs and went swimming, then we went for another 30 minute "potty" walk. He's going to eat dinner now, and then we're going for another 30 minute "potty" walk, and later another hour walk.

See, my point I am trying to make is that I can oversee and control a pack of 5 by having them inside and outside......it's a better relationship......I can judge by how much time they spend outside if they really love to be out all the time. The truth is they don't want to be out all the time....even though there are 5 and they have each other, they still love being around us a lot.

    • Gold Top Dog

Im sure your right snow, in fact i know you are. But he isnt comming inside period. So if you'd like to teach me anything else id be glad to read and take into consideration. Telling me to bring him inside is going in one ear and back out the door (lol that wasnt a good joke lol) But yeah sorry! Id like any other information you could teach me i realize you all know about dogs and i could learn from you. But your not going to MAKE me put him inside. You could keep asking if you cant get it through your head tho

The dog CERTAINLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! will not be neglected, i get bored of sitting on the net, and watching tv. And live on acres, and a park right behind my house. So its great to have a friend who is ALWAYS going to run and jump on me and lick me to no end. And to the comment about exersizing my dog in 90 degree heat? Are you crazy...i wouldnt risk heat stroke my self by doing that haha. I usely wait till the sun goes down. And he can run with me untill he cant anymore(like i do). Also i wish he could play ball. But since he cant ill end up throwing the ball and watching him try to bring it back lol. Wont get much ball played anyway since he will be right up under me probly tripping me. That would make me put the ball down and play with him. Yesterday, there were alot of kids playing with him so i didnt have to they played with him for hours while i played ball...

OK, if you are dead set on keeping the dog out and you have a set amount of time to play with him and train him every day, good.....here some other suggestions:

Take him with you whenever you can and socialize as much as you can and then some

Make sure his outside shelter is the best you can give him, possibly with a fan installed or even some heat source for the winter

Pay close attention to fly strikes and other parasites attacking your dog, check property for snakes

Stay on top of heartworm prevention, flea and tick prevention

You should lay something on the ground so your dog doesn't have to walk through mud all the time, maybe even wood shavings that can repel certain bugs

Have several sources of id on the dog, microchip, embroidered collar and tags

Make sure the tie out you use will support him later, some dogs get strong and one day they just snap a tie out like a string

    • Gold Top Dog

How much time should i set everyday as much as possible im sure. When i go run its usely for an hour. And usely come back to refil waterbottle and go work out some more.

If wood chips are good, i have a big pile of those lol, we use those on the back poorch. But im still building the dog house. When its cold he can go in the garage/ shed. Its always warm in there for some reason even when its not hot.

Right now , the tie wont support him if he gets older but thats because he's only a pup and dosnt have any intentions to get lose. I could untie him and he wouldnt go anywhere. But im sure when the time comes ill get something better.

I have other questions but will open new thread for that.  Later

I assume that your chained pup is never going to get overexcited over anything out there, spill his water bowl, and get an heat stroke while you lay on your bed in the AC. Nah, you sure will remember to check on him when you get bored. I also assume you kept an attentive eye on all those kids who were playing with your pup for hours while your were playing ball - you sure have stamina to play ball in this heat for hours on end. How did the pup/kids interactions go ?

By the way, what is your pup's name ? What did the vet say during your dog's visit ? Remember, the visit you wanted to make to "get everything checked out" (page 1) ? Remember, the morning vet visit that you set an appointment for on July 25 (page 2) ? I hope he found your pup in great condition. Have you discussed neutering your dog with him ? Any idea when you will have that done ? Was the previous owner able to give you vaccination records for your pup ? That should help your vet tremendously.

On the other hand, I am happy you are getting a good time out of all of this. Or am I imagining a pattern here ?

Lol, that was a entertaining post to read... I think ill end this thread getting abit too entertaining ha. If anyone is interested in knowing more about the dog, or helping PM me. Unfortunately ill let you keep assuming lol

The truth is...the dog is going to have a horrible life...there goes another bad owner and another poor dog to be neglected and sent to the county pound. Sad such an endangered breed! Pitbull The poor pup is going to be neglected and shipped off, if not stole i feel sorry for him Unfortunately...The owner shouldnt have rescued the dog , should have let him just stay there and become in worst condition. lol entertaining once again
