    10 manliest dogs

I saw this on yahoo today. Not really proud that my 3 favorite dogs are considered manly, lol, but whatever. I do not like the very last disclaimer about pit bulls though.

    article

I thought it was a cool article but there was some refference to a chicks list that I couldnt find that I'd like to see.

I don't mind the disclaimer about the pit bulls, heck anything to stop people from getting one for image is ok with me. I think its also great that they pointed out the high level of responsibility and the fact they are illegal because both of those reasons are why a lot end up in shelters. I think it was a responsible point they made.

I'm not entirely sure the nature of the website and authority of the authors should be taken to literally.....the website is all about image for insecure men who seek the advice of some one sided media, LOL

I wonder why the GSDs intelligence was rated a 6 while the Labs an 8. Weird.

I just went on Mutt March last Sunday. I spent quite a while walking near a gnarly, blue-jeans and black T-shirt biker dude with a......shih tzu. In fact, I have seen a LOT of gnarly, tattooed Manly Men with shih tzus.

     Go figure! LOL

I can't believe the chows not in there!  Men are completely intrigued when they see her.

Well I'm not a man..lol but my fav would have to be RR on that list.

I didn't appreciate the Pit Bull disclaimer either. It is good to discourage just anyone from getting them, but they could have done that in a much better way instead of stupid hype like *far too volatile or simply can’t be domesticated* They are a domesticated animal, therefore they are already domesticated and it gets tiring hearing that they are violent, volatile, ect and how they don't belong in domestic backyards, how it is like having a tiger, how you can never trust a wild animal. They are a breed of dog like any other, yes they have different needs and different owner, just like any other. Some breeds take more training, more socialization, different kind of training, ect, ect. At least when you click on the link it seems to have some decent info, I didn't read it all but seemed good. I think you can discourage people from getting something without making it sounds dangerous or evil. Because that gives people the wrong idea just like saying they are ok for anyone to own just on the other extreme.

I do know it said can't be domesticated with commitment right from the start but then thats hardly true at all since they take so much and get nothing in life and come out as awesome dogs. Besides the fact that this is true of any breed. There are some very nasty dogs out of there of many breeds small and large because spoiling the dogs, missing early socialization, not giving any training. A Ridgeback is not a dog you want a lax owner to have. Even really a Lab while some thing are all born friendly and safe needs someone to be committed to be a good dog.

    Me too.

Also it seems they are encouraging the GSD as a "guard" dog, but really the GSD is a "protection" dog and there is a difference.  They don't do well being left outside away from their people, expected to patrol and guard property.  They were originally designed and bred to live with their people and work with their people.  Trained to protect and defend?  Definitely.  But there are other working breeds much better suited as "guard" dogs.

DH will be disappointed that Beagles are not on the list!

    Here are your beagles:

    Ranks 70 to 79
    Lowest Degree of Working/Obedience Intelligence

Understanding of New Commands: 80 to 100 repetitions or more.

Obey First Command: 25% of the time or worse.

Quite frankly, if you actually go through page by page and read their explanations of "rating" the vast majority are ridiculous and horrendously insulting! Great Pyrenees came in as #64 and they are certainly much more intelligent than that. You simply have to give them a good reason to perform. The same goes for Malamutes and Sibes, they shouldn't be rated as low as they are and Bloodhounds are quite intelligent! This list is absurd IMO.....LOL
