If you can get baby food fruit/veggies that might help; most are enriched with Vitamin C and very palatable to pigs.  Mine adored the banana and squash varieties but would clean up the other varieties as well just not with as much glee. ;)

i just got back from the vet.

poopsy started completely refusing to swallow ANYTHING today. she still wasnt extremely weak (not exactly strong either) but without being able to get ANYTHING into her system, i didnt see any hope. i called my sister (it was around 3am there i think) and she agreed with the decision to have her put down.

dont know what else. to say. i tried, i really tried...

I haven't contributed to this thread because I know nothing about guinea pigs, but I've been watching it & hoping for a good outcome.

I'm so sorry Janet.  I know how hard you tried.

thanks for all your support guys.

i went to bed and bawled my eyes out last night.

tell me i did the right thing...

When an animal so little refuses to eat, its really hard, especially if they're no longer young.  I don't think the chances are good in taht sort of situation.  I definitely think you did the right thing.

I'm sure you did the right thing. I bet Poopsie is scampering around at the Bridge with all of the other piggies, eating carrots and doing whatever guinea pigs do.

it's weird. i've never had to put down a pet. the 2 GPs i had as a kid both died very suddenly...

my bathroom feels so empty now. i always thought i didnt really bond much with poopsy, but now that she's gone i realize how much i had grown fond of her. everytime i go to the bathroom, i would cuddle and pet her first. then she'd do zoomies around her cage. when i took showers, i would often lock out the dogs and let her run around the bathroom...

anyways... i guess this is part of having pets.

i guess she is with ginny, her buddy, now... :)

Yes you did try.  I lost two the same way, never did figure it out.  They just didn't seem right one day, then went downhill fast (one was my sister's and one was mine, they died at different times).  I had an appt. to have mine at the vet or be euthanized if there was no progress, but she passed the day before.  To this day it haunts me, I have no idea what was wrong.  She had scurvy once but we cleared that up (and her symptoms were different).
