And I think it is insulting to Megan, and a minimization of what she experienced - which was a situation *engineered* to play on her weaknesses.
I don't think the situation WAS engineered to play on her weaknesses. I think the situation was engineered to find out of Megan was gossiping. That's what everyone in the case says. They didn't do this with the intent to harass Megan. They did it to get information from her.

The whole thing makes me wonder what kind of world we are living in to be honest...

OMG seriously????  I don't even know how to respond.

To find out if Megan was gossiping?  That's a pretty lame excuse coming from an adult.

I am appalled by the whole case, that a grown woman would purposely behave the way she did.  That is a problem some parents have as a whole - wanting to be their kids' friends, trying to act like the kids do, instead of being the parent.  This Lori Drew woman has some serious psychological issues of her own, IMHO.

    OMG seriously????

Yes, seriously. Those are the facts of the case, not my opinion. (Edit: I recognize that the facts of the case MAY not necessarily be the truth of the case, but that's all the information we have to go on. If we start making up our own "truth" - for example that Drew maliciously started the Josh persona with the specific intent to harass Megan and play on her weaknesses - then we're just making stuff up in an emotional frenzy. THAT becomes opinion about the case, not facts of the case.)

ottoluv, have you read the story? The mother and daughter team made up (engineered) the "Josh" persona with the intent to gain information - to find out if Megan had been gossiping about Drew's daughter. That's why Drew wasn't legally charged with harassment.

Oh, but that's just that silly legal talk. You know... facts and all...

    Clearly.

    I agree 100%.

I think what the woman did is wrong but I also don't blame her 100% for the girls death. Lori Drew has some major problems and she should be on her hands and knees apologizing for what she did.

Unless they can prove that she knew the girl was going to commit suicide I don't see how she can be charged.

I thought the mom had some other guy doing it for her?  I can't find the CNN article now b/c the source where I first read it is being upgraded, but the article said that some "employee" of Drew was the one that created and used the MySpace page.  The article also said that guy is receiving psychiatric treatment.

Oh c'mon! You are way smarter than this. I get and like your logical approach, and your desire to avoid hysteria. But women don't "seek information" via fake myspace as a part of some detached fact finding mission. Gossip is a weapon for teenage girls, and while the initial thought may have been "let's find out if she's gossiping" what occurred was harassment. The FACTS are that Lori Barnes claims to have had nothing but benign intentions. My OPINION, based on observation of human behavior, is that she is lying or deluding herself. I'm not making it up in an emotional frenzy, just as I'm not being hysterical at the dog park when I try and tell some clueless owner that Fido is NOT "just being friendly."

Have you read any thing on aggression in girls? Or to take gender terms out of it, "relational aggression." Come to think of it, dogs do a lot of relational aggression! LOL, it's amazing how much dogs can bully each other without ever making physical contact.

I am willing to believe that Lori Barnes, as the adult involved, never meant for things to go as far as they did. I am willing to believe she never really thought through what she was involved with. I am not willing to believe that what she and those kids did was anything but aggression, harassment, and thoroughly vile.

What kind of depression Megan had? I mean degree wise?

I think we all had(well most of) depression stages when we were teens, the stage where 'you want to kill yourself'. I suffered depression when I lost my dog(recently) but it nevered entered my mind that I will commit to suicide(well maybe kill the vet who misdiagnose my dog that lead to his death but I understand it better now  and come to terms with it when wounds healed). I was extremely overweight as a young teen there was some 'pressure' to lose weight(health reasons) but I did lose weight when I was ready. The peer pressure is too tremendous in Megan's case I guess & maybe also the weight loss (lack of carbs). When I dieted & eliminated major carbs I really got 'sad' easily & was 'not full of life' Megan must have experienced that too (coz they mentioned that she just lost 25 lbs) Well a normal, stable person (even a young teen) would not commit suicide. I still think Lori Drew is B.S. and the major person responsible for her death and maybe she has issues of her own thats why she did it. But maybe there is another part of this story we should cover because while Lori Drew's fake account pushed her to the edge to commit suicide maybe there are small factors in her life piling it up (I mean majority even young teens will not commit suicide with a fake account saying mean things & ganging up on you) Example: What was Megan like when she was alive? What kind of life did she had (what her environment at home & school were like) Who were the people involve in her life? What degree of depression does she had? etc. There are so many questions that needed to be answered. I really do feel empathy for her whole family & I do pray for her soul to find peace. I am glad that there is a foundation named after Megan to end cyberbullying.

this is what  LORI DREW had to say(or what seemed to be her "argument" which if you read will make you think of her and her family LESS as her way of thinking is totally screwed up), download the files of the winzip you could see Lori Drew's statement for the whole issue, she doesnt even feel remorse. TSK I pity her as she HAS MAJOR ISSUES. first she posted as 'Kristen' then posted that she way indeed in fact Lori Drew. I don't know if everyone had already read this but just posting it again for those who haven't.

The idea was concocted by Drew and Ashley Grills (Drew's employee AND the person who wrote the last message about how the world would be a better place without Megan) She is in therapy. I hold Drew's daughter as innocent. She was a victim, too, in my opinion.

Ashley Grills, who was 18 at the time and worked for Lori Drew, told Good Morning America that she, Lori Drew and Lori Drew's daughter created a fictional profile under the name Josh Evans to find out what Megan was saying.

Au, contraire! Perhaps stable, secure, mature women don't do that, but I guarantee you that there are many women who are involved in just such activities. Many women love to gossip and are plain nosy.

I don't argue with that, but it was Grills who did the harassment.

    Thanks Carla.

I think this Drew woman is bat-s*** crazy, regardless of her legal responsibility.  And sadly, I'm not all that astonished.  My parents sacrificed so much so that we could go to the best private school in town b/c the public school system here (and especially the inner-city where we originally lived) is a joke.  Consequently, I grew up with some gratuitiously privileged kids (we're talking two of the most wealthy families in the nation, 3 times wealthier than Donald Trump) whose parents, moms especially, were totally off the wall most of the time.  I know some mom's that hosted parties for their kids, even bought them alcohol.  Some were living so vicariously through their daughters I didn't know whether to laugh or be seriously disturbed.

Oh my. Do I laugh or cry? Please go back and read the link you posted.

Kind of a shame they took off the rickroll link .... I guess it was too subtle.

I think they took it off because there were at least 5,000 comments .And  the statement Lori gave contradicts her 'lawyer's' statement.

Putting up the blog & letting people read her "argument" Lori Drew is what we can call a total b*tch, her way of thinking is like a '13' year old. It's like 'she pushed me so I need to push her harder' logic. My, this woman has big issues. If her reason is to 'protect' her daughter then why allow her daughter have a Myspace account? her reason was so because her daughter 'Sarah' would not be left out. Her parenting skills are messed up why would she need her daughter protection from Megan? Megan is a young girl & young girls have disagreements its really natural. IMHO, she didnt need to meddle in THEIR fight.

Does anyone know what degree Megan's deppression was?
