please help with leash question... Bailey HATESSSS them! What to do?

I'm not a professional trainer, but  I do get older pups from rescue to foster, and I'm  expected to teach them manners, including walking on lead nicely.  These are german shepherds so not small pups that can be easily manuveered.  I do exactly what I suggested in my earlier post regardless of the dogs age.  And, I don't take months and months......usually in six to eight weeks my fosters are ready to move to their forever homes.

To me, quick fixes are great for stuff around the house that you just don't have the time or tools to fix properly now.  But when we come to a living, breathing being, there isn't room for a quick fix.  If you do it right the first time, it's done, and just needs periodic practice to keep it done.  FWIW, I would never tie a dog to a tree or anything else to get him used to a lead.  In my personal, non professional opinion, that's cruel, creates a negative association with the lead, and just isn't necessary.

I agree... This post was intended for tips on training her... not a quick fix... I obviously know with my Bailey girl, that this will not be a "quick fix."  Stick out tongue

I wasn't clear if you thought that comment was directed at you.  In fact, it was not.  Some of the suggestions prompted that little outburst, so my apologies if you thought I was being critical of you.

So...................why was the "quick fix" post directed at me?

I was just offering some ideas. I never even used the words "quick fix". And I was not the one who posted about tying a dog to a tree.

If you click the "In Reply To" in the upper right of a post (glenmar's post to you), you can see which post they are replying to. Glenmar's post was in reply to your last post, saying that Lowe's is a hardware store or whatever. So, I don't think she was replying to you so much as using the last post in the thread to make a general reply. Smile I could be wrong.

There is the added complication that whenever someone mentions Cesar Millan (which you did) the phrase "quick fix" flashes across some people's mind. I'm not saying that's what happened here, but it's possible.

In any case, I believe that some circumstances DO allow for a quick fix. It depends on the situation, the dog, the owner and so on. I'm not sure this is one such situation, but I certainly trust the owner to figure that out. Smile

Hope I haven't further confused the situation. Stick out tongue

Actually, FIC is absolutely right, I just hit the reply and yours was the last post.  I think maybe I should give up trying to be sure that I wasn't directing my comments on them...seem to just be digging myself into a hole here.

Not very technical here ... but when you hit "quick reply" which is what it seems most people do, doesn't your post automatically say "in reply to" whatever post was just above yours ... whether it's what you meant or not? Myself - I try not to take personally anything that wasn't obviously directed at me, such as putting my name in a post. Smile

Bt- I sent you a PM

Oh, I though you were just "dogging" my comment because I mentioned CM.

    My bad! Embarrassed

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh heavens no.  I'm not a CM fan, but a lot of that is that I can't get past the reactions that we tend to get HERE.  I've honestly only seen him in action on TV a few times.  I truly don't "get" the devotion.

Nope, your post was the last one on the page and I replied, but not to you.

Now, tell me you're a Red Sox fan and we'll be friends forever................
