What do you have written on your dog's tag(s)? (by keedokes)

I've got a cool one I ordered online from PetSmart, but haven't seen it in any stores.  It's got Harry's name in BIG letters on one side, my address, phone number, and "Reward if Found" on the other side.  I like that it's more engraved looking instead of "stamped" like the ones you get out of those machines.

He has a separate little plastic tag with the phone number to the microchip company and the chip ID number.  And his Rabies tag.  Good thing these things are so light!!

I'm conflicted about the reward part.  I read a story on the Internet about a dog getting lost and the person posting a reward.  Some punks got the dog, called the guy and tried to extort more money than was posted out of him, he refused and they tortured the dog on the phone where he could hear it.  I don't think they ever got caught.  It could be an Internet legend, but I worry that since the story is out there, it could give some other punks ideas, but I hope for the best.

And work hard not to lose my dogs!

When I get new tags I'm going to get micro-chip stuff one them.

Do you guys think if I just put '$$' in the field instead of the state, that that would let people know that there's a reward?  Or do I need to be more explicit? 

 LOL!  I think $$$ sends a pretty clear signal! 

Kenya has 4 tags....

License tag - has her license number and the year (county gives me this tag)

Microship tag - from the company, has their web address, phone number, and her microchip ID number

AKC CGC tag - has CGC logo on the front, on the back is her name, my name, my number, her DOB, "Spayed & Vacc'ed", her AKC number, and her microchip ID number

Personal tag - front has her name, my name, address, and phone number.  Back has her name again, additional phone numbers, and microchip ID number.

Coke has 2 tags, the same county license tag and a personalized tag similar to Kenya's but with his info.  I wasn't given a microchip tag when we adopted him and he failed his CGC! 

Dublin has two microchips and on his ID tag I just have his name and my cell phone number.  I didn't put an address because now days most people just call since they have cell phones on them.  I didn't bother with a home phone number because if my boy is missing I will be out and about looking for him not sitting home by the phone.

He also has his county license on his collar, along with his plastic microchip tag.

I doubt anyone would be able to get close enough to him to snag him.... but just in case! I think chipping is really important, and all my pets are chipped. They also all wear collars (cats included) just in case.

My dog's tags all have "REWARD" and I'll tell you why.  A good friend of mine had his dog escape the yard during a terrible storm.  No collar on the dog and no microchip.  He put up signs all over and ran ads everywhere and no dog.  Someone suggested he add "REWARD" to all his lost signs, etc.  In 24 hours someone called who had found the dog and liked it and decided to keep him.  The person admitted he had seen my friends signs, etc. but until the REWARD was offered he planned to keep the dog!!  My friend got his dog back and paid the jerk his reward, reluctantly.

I was always told to never put the dog's name on the tag becasue it makes it easier for people to keep him/her. Plus its not like they need to know the dogs name to call him/her to them....if they can get close enough to see the tags then the dog is friendly enough for them to contain and try to find the owner, LOL.

Even so Rory and Primo's name are on their tags because of their breed. I want anyone who picks them up to know they are loved and not some random pit bull roaming the streets. There are too many horror stories about pit bulls being picked up and used for bait dogs or breeding so I'm just paranoid about it.  I order all my tags from www.georgesf.com because they come with cute slogans and stuff on one side.

But anyhoo....the dogs have their names, address, city and 2 phone numbers. Plus rabies and city registration

Max has  the routine rabies tag, county registration tag and Home Again chip tag w/the info that usually goes on those particular tags, and he has an ID tag with his name, my name, address and phone number. I didn't bother putting "microchipped" on his ID tag because the chip tag w/number is pretty self explanatory.

How do you get a CGC tag?  We weren't offered one when Gypsy got her CGC.  I would like to have one if it's possible.

 Ours have one tag each at the moment.  It has our surname, address and phone number on one side and "I'm chipped & neutered" on the back.

I have been planning to get an additional one for the cat saying "I need regular meds" to discourage anyone from stealing her, as there have been quite a few dog and cat thefts around here lately... but I haven't got round to it.
