Are your dogs really running hot right now?

Considering it's shedding time and the temps are fluctuating between warm and cool (at least here), how are your dogs handling their activities? I think that Neiko needs to learn to pace himself. When herding sheep or playing frisbee he runs sooooo hot! He's perfectly healthy  and not even in to his full adult coat yet. However, he really hasn't shed much this spring either. He doesn't seem to handle the temp changes like Dakota does. She seems to be able to manage her body temp a lot better.

These are my first aussies so I wonder if this is typical - they being late shedders and don't manage their body temps very well.....

Neither of mine are blowing right now.  Coke blew a coat a few months back, Kenya hasn't blown since I got her last August (was blowing at the time).  It will be our first summer with Coke.  I'm interested to see how it goes, considering he is a huge dog, he is almost solid black, and he has a very long, thick coat.  I considered shaving him for about .5 seconds.  He came to us with his rear shaved and it looked so horrible compared to his lustrous, sleek coat now.  I can't do it.

Yeah, it looks like Coke has a coat like Neiko. Let me know how he does with these temp changes

Max is an extremely prolific shedder - non stop, all year, no matter what the temperature is or whether he's being active or a couch potato.

Cleo is nearly nude....she doesn't ever do anything tho so she's about the same activity level wise. Beagles are dropping short poky hairs all over as per usual! Lazy per usual as well!

Bugsy is horrible in the heat and he has a short, short single coat. He does have times of heavier shedding and it is minimal at the moment.  DH is just taking him out now for a walk and it is 77*, Bugs will be a mess when he gets in, I have his wading pool filled so he can cool quickly.

He doesn't seem to acclimatize either so we are now approaching the time of year where we can feed less because he is LESS active.

Ha HA HA I dont envy any of you! I live on the coast, it never reaches over 83 degrees MAX and that is pushing it. Rory and Primo shed minimally so i just brush them before they come in the house! Ha ha.......ooh it feels good to gloat, LOL

Sassy is shedding like crazy - ugh! It was 90 last Sunday and I noticed she was more lethargic that day and evening. It's still getting pretty cold at night here though and that's when she wants to be most active.

The average summer in MN is 80F but it gets so humid that it feels like 100F. My dog handles the heat very well and is very active during the summer, it's in winter that she has to stay inside.  I wish we lived somewhere warm like CA, TX or even Florida, we love the heat!

We live in Washington state. The weather is pretty mild with rain. Tootsie sheds year round, in any temp. She starts getting uncomfortable at about 70.

Well ..... they were just starting to blow coat over the last two weeks, not really bad this season, but getting bursts of shedding/dandruff.  It had been in the high 60s - low 70s and even reached 80 one day, then dropped back wown to the high 40s and lower these past few days. It's cold, damp and miserable here right now. Seems like the Beagles stopped blowing coat for now, and it really hasn't affected their energy level. The mutt hasn't stopped blowing his coat since it cooled off, but he's been lazier than usual, lol. When it gets too hot, the Beagles just flop in the yard, soaking up the sun ... that must look lovely to the neighbors ... a yard full of motionless Beagles, sprawled out on the grass Indifferent

spraying hair as rapidly as they can. It's cool at night then goes up to "hot for dogs" over 70 mid-day. We've already switched to exercise early in the day when it's better for dogs.

Lex is definitely feeling the heat since we moved. He was used to 40-50 degree weather average in Portland and now we are almost daily in the 80's. He wont eat when its above 70. So we have to feed him super early and super late.As far as shedding goes he doesn't really. He has a terrier coat, thank goodness.

Have you considered a cooling vest or bandana?
