Inside or Outside

    Inside or Outside

If your out or at work for more than a few hours what do you do with your pup?
The reason I'm asking this is cause normally if it's warm I leave my dog outside he has a kennel to go into for shelter and heaps of toys. Or inside if it's raining.
But today I decided to leave him outside and it hasn't been that warm hasn't rained but looks like it could
So basically I'm feeling guilty just wanted to know what you guys do with your pups and if you gets the guilts as much as I do

its a gamble with Kaydee. she does ok either way.. SOMETIMES. it really depends on how she is acting that morning. some days she is more of a pain than others, meaning she is bored and wants to have fun no matter what.on those days she is outside as that is safer for her.
before we moved we had these huge pretty drapes in our windows. when we came home they would always be on the floor. after i went on maternity leave i found out why. i observed her one day while i was doing stuff around the house.. she would sit by the window, staring out for most of the day waiting for my husband to get home. i noticed she was leaning on the drapes, and when she had a flea bite her she whipped around suddenly to chew on it, which pulled the drapes and down they came......

Ben can never be alone loose in the house. he has to stay in the laundry room because he is a shameless leg lifter.

oh and i dont feel guilty for leaving them outside. in florida weather changes at the drop of a hat. it might be sunny in the morning and stormy in the evening. just never know. but they're dogs, and a tough breed at that. i'm not worried about them suffering. i just make sure the outside tap is left dripping so the water is fresh in their bowls, and that the bowls are in the shade so its cool water. plus shelter for them.

inside, always, but mainly for two reasons:

    1) afraid they'll get stolen

    2) tek likes to bark like crazy when someone passes by and my neighbors would get sick of that real quick.

ideally, if i lived in the country and had a goooood fence, i'd probably do a doggie door.  but life is not always ideal.

My dogs are inside 90% of the time. All of them except Axl and Pepito go out on a long tie-out to potty and play (since we don't have a fence [:'(]). When we're not home(which isn't often, I at least am usually home), Ogre, Pepito, and Butter are crated, Madison is tied to Ogre's crate with a chain leash, and Axl is given free run since he's awesome and just sleeps all day anyway.

I HATE how difficult it is to let my dogs outside. When we get our farm in the next month or so (both of the places we're looking at have secure fencing) I'm going to encourage them to stay outside as much as possible. I'll probably put in a dog door and let them come and go- but I'm thinking they'll prefer to stay outside most of the day anyway. At night everyone but Ogre and Madison will be kept inside (especially Pepito) since coyotes are a problem. Ogre and Madison like to guard, Ogre is BIG, and I'm hoping their presence will keep carnivores at bay. Both houses we're looking at have covered porches, so I'll probably put some beds out there for them too. They'll be allowed inside whenever they want to come...but I REALLY want to make it worth their while to stay outside. I'll be outside working on various farm things most of the day anyway, so they'll probably prefer to stay with me...and I've got jobs planned for all of them, so I'm going to be keeping their little butts busy. I DO live in the country and I DO have a good solid fence.  But my dogs are inside when I'm not home.  When I have a pup too young to hold it while I'm gone, I provide an ex pen with a potty area, but I do not leave my animals outside unattended.  Living this far in the country also means that you are more isolated from folks maybe SEEING a problem.....like someone trying to steal or hurt your dogs just because they are sicko's.....they don't HAVE to be bothered by the dogs to try to hurt them....and it also means that wildlife is more prevelent.  We do have bear and bobcats in this area and I'd rather not risk their safety.

Mine are never out when I'm not home. They are safer in the house and I would worry about them too much. Even though mine aren't barkers, you never know what could set them off and I'd hate for my neighbors to have to listen to them bark. I have a neighbor who leaves their dog out occassionally and that dog makes us all shut our windows because he yelps for hours.

They are always inside if I'm not home. One reason is because I'm afraid they'll get stolen. They're both good looking dogs and are easy targets imo.

The second reason is because my husky is an escape artist. Leave her alone outside for too long and she'll figure out a way out.

Finally, my pup is too young to leave unattended for too long. He'd get himself into trouble I'm sure.

I live just blocks from core downtown, I have a 6 ft. board-on-board privacy fence with locked gate, a dog door in the steel backdoor.  They have 2 rooms in the house that are "theirs" (both air conditioned & their food & water are inside).  They start the day inside (in our bed), are moved to their rooms before we leave for work, during ther day the 2 bigger dogs prefer to be outside while the 2 smaller prefer to be inside - this way they all get what they want; by the time we return home they are all inside waiting for us and the afternoon "family loving time"[:D].

Even if I had a yard to leave him in, Xerxes would be inside while I'm at work.

    1) Anyone that has heard him bark knows how freaking loud he is.  And they are particularly good alarms.  They also love their voices.

    2) Given enough time to figure things out, there is nothing he can't jump over, tunnel under, bite through, climb, or circumvent to escape.

    3) He's an intact male, do I want to take a chance on #2 happening because there's a female in heat somewhere in the world?

No one uses a crate indoors when they aren't home? Frankie is 2 and he's a lab and he's NOT QUALIFIED to be loose in the house yet without destroying something.  He's crated during the day for his own safety.  I have a dog walker come at lunchtime and walk both the boys.  I would never, ever leave them outside unattended.  Too dangerous, even in my safe little town.

I have a dog door and my three oldest have access to outside/inside 24/7, the two youngest get crated at night, or when it's nasty out when I am not home, but for a quick run to the store I sometimes leave them in a kennel which half of it is covered with canvas tarp.

Amy - my puppy is crated inside when I'm not home. My husky has the run of the house.

My dogs are crated when I am not home.  They have separation anxiety so if I leave them loose they destroy things.

My dogs are crated when I am not home. Stitches has separation anxiety, which often manifests itself in using the bathroom in the apartment. And Quincy is a chewer so I would rather not have him get into anything when we are not there.

We are looking to move into a house with a fence sometime soon, but even then, I think I will keep them inside. I don't want them outside unless we are there with them in case they find a hole or something to dig under the fence.
