same breed of dogs

I will always have a bully breed of some sort.  When I am decrepit, I may size down to a SBT or  something similar, but I will always have one of SOME size.

I'm not sure if this will stay this way but right now I feel that I could never own anything but chows.  I hope to raise at least one puppy someday.

Hi. I used to keep harlequin great danes and when the last one was getting quite old, my husband bought me a mini dachshund as a present. The dakkie is 7 now. The old dane died when the dakkie was a pup and I was so tempted to get another dane...but they are so individual and so irreplacable..and I just couldn't go there again....but then the dakkie was lonely....went to see some dakkie pups...ended up getting 2 more....then decided I like these littel dogs so much....got another 3 more the year after.so now we have 6 of them running round...but thats enough for anybody I think.

I haven't had the pleasure of growing up with a dog even though I wanted one so bad as a kid.  My dad had barely let us keep a cat!  But now on our own, we decided to get a dog.  We knew nothing about dogs, but we wanted one for so long that we took the first one we saw at the shelter!  Martini was a labeled as a Black Lab/Min Pin mix.  We had her for more than a year now and we learned everything about dogs from her and this board.  I definitely want more dogs like Martini but larger for more to hug. My next dog will probably be a Doberman since they seem to have Martini's look and temperament. But I love all breeds and if I could, I would get all of them.

That is how I feel (and have pretty much always felt) about German Shepherds, save for a few dogs with similar temperament that I would also consider, namely Belgian Malinois and Dutch Shepherds.  I *like* a lot of other breeds, but as far as actively looking for them in the future, I will stick to the aforementioned three and possibly the Berger Picard (Picardy Shepherd).  However, pound and rescue dogs are a different story.  Coke is not a shepherd and probably not even part shepherd but he is my heart dog.  DH's breed preferences are very different than mine, and there's also other breeds I think are better suited for kids/companion/family life, so we will probably end up with a variety, but as far as the dogs I am really actively training, working, and trialing, those will be GSDs or the like.

26+ years in dobes before I switched to belgians.... 10 years with Beligans now, and with my family history it will be 40+ yrs when I am done owning dogs.... I will likely get only one more puppy then switch to belgian rescues or rehomes.

I've had a few RRs. I will always try and have at least 1 in my life. There is no doubt there will always be a GSD in my life. And as soon as i get a dobie, i'm sure i'll always have one!

There are a ton of breeds i would like to own, but besides the 3 i hope to always have, i will probably only add 1 more...most likely a mixed breed from the shelter.

I love all of our dogs but I cant see us owning another one of their breed but my parents are wanting to get another corgi when ours passes or when he gets old.

Our corgi is probably the best dog you can ask for. He dog tricks, wonderful at obedience and agility, and always by your side. He is always there when your crying whining to make you smile and he makes little grunting sneezing noises because he knows it makes you laugh and then he just looks up at you with his eyes with a big smile on his face. And when he is stretching he will hold it out waiting for you to scratch his sides and then he makes a weird growly burp noise. He always tells you stories, he comes up to you on the couch with will make funny whining sounds and then you make them back at him and you can have a conversation for a while. I cant imagine getting another corgi as I would always be comparing them. Hes our perfect lil man.

Our golden retriever Claire was a total accident. My mom works at a vet and a woman comes in to put her 2 day old puppy to sleep because she had a clef (sp?) palet. My mom brought her home and had to feed her with a seringe and tube and take care of her. She lived with use for about a week before she passed. They breeder heard about how hard we all pitched in to save the pup and gave us pick of the litter (all were sold before they were born, one extra.). We ended up with Claire for free which would of been a $1500 puppy because of her dads champion history. But she is always in your face obnoxious, but is loving and does obedience (we got accepted into state..but I was chicken and didnt wanna go) and does agilty very well. She was our accident and we love her to death but we are going to stick to smaller dogs after her.

Cloe is my sisters dog that is living with us. She is perfect in every way and I wouldnt choose one if I were to get one because of the same reasons as our corgi.

Sabrina is my foster poodle I'm training as a service dog. Ive had her since she was 8 weeks and is almost 8 months. She is doing GREAT with her training and could probably be placed now but since she is a pup they want to wait until she is atleast a year and a half. But I cant see myself getting another one after her because I raised her all by myself. Trained her all by myself and put so much into it, I would expect the next poodle to do the same but there would be no guarentee. The only thing I HATE is she doesnt listen to you off leash when she see our cats and our chickens. She has killed a few of our chickens and caught a few. And she always jumps on the cats chatter biting them trying to play and is scared to death of other dogs in public and will bite them. Other than that she is PERFECT and I couldnt compare another poodle to her.

MY next dog will hopefuly be a Chihuahua, Chinese crested or a Dachshund which ever suits me best after I'm done researching and after my foster pup gets placed..

My PARENTS next dog will be a mini doxie or another corgi.

Presently I have three Westies and a Golden Retriever.  I am a Westie person.  I just love the breed.  I love their personality, their spunk, their looks, just everything about them.  My little Sophie went to the Rainbow Bridge almost two years ago.  She was my heart dog, and I continue to miss her so very much.  I think of her everyday and remember all of the wonderful things she did and and the just the wonder of Sophie.  Shortly after I lost my little girl, I got two more Westies.  I'll admit part of me was trying to replace Sophie, but most of me was just trying to honor her.   It was my way of thanking her for the wonderful life she gave me.  I wanted to share my life with another Westie because of the joy she gave me. I also wanted to give another Westie the love that I gave her.  Occ. I'll see a little bit of Sophie in one of my other Westies, but I know that there is no way that they will replace her.  She will always have a special place in my heart.  That being said, each of my Westies have a special place in my heart for just being themselves.  They are all so very special and I no longer even try to see a bit of Sophie in them.  Sophie is honored in my heart and and I know that is how she would want it to be.  I will always have a Westie in my life, and I have learned to accept each dog as they are just as we accept each person as they are.  They each have so very much to offer and so much love to give.  We do them a disservice by expecting them to be like another.

I got my Golden from a family that didn't want her, because their son was afraid of her.  She was a puppy and, of course, liked to play like a puppy.  Well, they wanted to give her away, so I took her.  She is the very sweetest dog there is.  She absolutely loves people.  She always wants to be around people.  Where I go, she wants to go.  Although I love her so much, I won't get another Golden.  The main reason for me, is that now that I am a little older, I prefer smaller dogs.  They are just easier for me to take care of.  But, in my opinion, Goldens are great dogs.

I may get a different smaller breed someday, but only to go along with my Westie.  If I did, it may be a Corgi.  I think they are neat smaller dogs.

I grew up with a mini poodle, which was the most un-poodle like dog imaginable.  She was a constant compainion with us kids, getting into everything kids get into.  After moving out on my own I violated my lease by getting a Yorkie, which the landlord was totally cool with.  A couple years latrer, when I got a house I got a Westie.  They continued the tradition of small dogs not acting small, and helped me rehab that house.  These two stayed with my ex after getting divorced, I couldn't see taking one or the other away from my young son, or each other.

I can't live without a dog, so once my living arrangements stabilized I got a Cairn.   Another construction dog,  redid that house, sold it, and moved here.  He passed away last June, nearly 16 years old, what an awesome little dog.

We went about one whole month without a dog, and now have an Aussie Terrier who will be 1 year old a week from today.  He's shaping up to be just like the rest, we gutted & rehabbed the bathroom a couple months back.

So, not the same dog, but all terriers about the same size.  This little Aussie rocks, I haven't had a terrier who is as flexible as him with any given situation.   He will go from  construction buddy, in the middle of everything, to mama's little  cuddly soap opera buddy, and is happy in any situation.   We are considering getting another,  this little guy is turning out so good.   I'm thinking it's not so much the breed, as the amount of good info available on the internet that was not around  years ago.

I have no problem with people getting the same breed, or getting the same breed, it's just that there are so many wonderful breeds out there.  I know that in my lifetime there is no way I would get to experience all the terrier breeds, I think a handful is plenty, as terriers seem to be 90% angel, 10% devil.  Wonder who else that describes.

My family used to have boxers and now I own a beagle.

But after taking so many dogs away from the streets (my beagle among them) and finding them new homes, I promised to myself that I will never again buy a dog, of any breed, while there are so many poor souls in the pounds, waiting for a second chance...

Though I have to admit that I always wanted to own a cirneco dell' etna or a weimaraner... Hard to find these in a pound... Sad

As a kid we had dobermans, I love the breed and would love to own one. I got Tootsie, totally by accident. Bfs aunt had started breeding corgis ( backyard style) and she purchased Tootsie with the intent of breeding her. Then she came up with the idea of letting me keep the pup with the promise of me breeding her to her male and she would get the litter( to pay for Tootsie). I was totally on board with this until I found i-dog. This forum enlightened me about so much. I was very upset with myself, so I took matters into my own hands. At the age of two, Tootsie got spayed. No one knew, except BF. Brought Tootsie to their male 2x while in season(Smile and for some reason the breedings didn't take. The aunt then told me Tootsie must not be breeding material, so she got spayed. Back to the subject, the corgi is the only breed I will ever own. Next time I won't get a tri though.

When our Shar Pei died, hubby said there will never be another Maya.

When our GSD died, hubby said there will never be another Roxie.

My only hope for another Boxer is to get one BEFORE anything happens to Bella.

As much as I tried to convince him that I wasn't trying to replace Maya or Roxie - that they all have their own personalities - he is the one that just wouldn't give in.

I grew up with a black lab, Bonnie that I will always miss.  I now have a chocolate lab but they are nothing alike.

I believe that I will always have a "hunting dog" of some sort, probably a GSP.  Every dog seems really different to me so I don't feel that any dog can replace one waiting at the bridge, even if they are the same breed.

    • Gold Top Dog

As long as there are game pit bulls out there I will always own one. If someday they all turn to fat hippos I will switch over to Staffies but this is the last time I will have two bully breeds at the same time.....I lucked out with my two being so good and well mannered, LOL, I dont wanna press my luck!

There are plenty of breeds I wish to own but I will DEFINETELY own a whippet, a black and tan hound and either a frenchy or a boston someday. No doubt about any of those three, its a must for me.

My secondary choices are Bassett Hounds, English Pointer, Pharoah Hound, GSP, Catahoula, and Britney Spaniel!
