Just take it one step at a time -- I've been there. More than once. Last year I had Billy in ICU up at the UFlorida so many times (he had SIX transfusions in 4 weeks and we literally expected death at any moment).
With Muffin every single time I took him up there I was terrified.
Just put one foot ahead of the other. Do all you can to plan to make it EASIER for the dog. TAKE TREATS. Several small bags in ziplock bags in your purse -- when they first have to take him for blood HAND THEM A BAG -- make it easy on them. Make it easy for them to BOND to your dog.
Bring a folder WITH You -- to put paper in for yourself. Take a small plastic bowl and a bottle of water and a whole wad of paper towels in your purse -- the more prepared YOU are for anything and everything the better you'll feel.
Bring a book or something -- you'll be waiting a while unless they tell you to go and come back. So again -- be prepared. Change in your pocket -- there are always machines and you'll want coffee and stuff to drink.
And just remember -- you are there to find out information. That's all. Whatever they tell you is an answer. No more wondering, no more fear -- ANSWERS.
Don't bring bad on yourself by concentrating on it. Draw good to you.
You will be in my thots and prayers all day long. holler if I can help -- I have been tehre!!! Not to Purdue -- but the mysterious visit to the big vet hospital IS intimidating. You want a 'show us what we can do' answer. You want to KNOW so you can attack the problem -- whatever it is.
If it's cancer there are things you can do -- they do awesome things with radiation now. Don't borrow trouble. -- just find out what it is so you CAN make the next step.
The one quote I'll make from "Dume" is this "Fear is a mind killer". It's true.
