    Dog Park Rant! Food+Baby=Disaster!

So....yesterday was a beauty of a day. Gorgeous weather! So, I took my parents dog, Barney (parti Cocker) to the off leash dog park. There was tons of people with dogs there- tons! Barney had a great time, wish I brought my camera. But...

A family was sitting in the grass, on a blanket, with a cooler...the Mom proceeds to set up a full on picnic...IN THE DOG PARK!!! WHAT?!?!?!?! Who does that? Then, their baby starts screaming and crying....yes, they had an infant there....the Mom picks the baby up, lays it down on the blanket, and starts to change its diaper right there on the ground. OMFG!!!! Who are these people???? Who does that? Then a women went up to them and I think she said they shouldn't have food there and shouldn't be changing their baby there on the ground, because the Mom and Dad flipped out saying it's a park and they're free to do what they want and they couldn't believe the women was saying anything to them. They left. Thank doG...I don't even think they had a dog with them.

I seriously cannot believe that people think that a dog park is suitable for a picnic. I mean it's obvious (at least to me) why you shouldn't eat on the ground there and why not to bring an infant. Ew, how many dogs poop and pee there?? Ick!

ETA: This park has a big sign in the entrance stating it is a dog park, dogs are unleashed, no food, no toys, etc, etc...So, they had to know.

It just goes to show you that some people can really be that stupid!!!

Ok, that takes the cake! I love that they got surly about being told they were in the wrong place. Hmm

     Morons!!!  Humanity leaves me speechless!

Wow. They are truly lucky their baby was okay and didn't get pummeled by a curious dog.  What on earth were they thinking?!!!!!!!!!  Food? On the ground, at dog park?! Ewwwwwwwww.

I'm sorry but I couldnt help but laugh the entire way through your post. As mentioned above "that really takes the cake", LOL!

I can just imagine a awful news story.......

Reporter: "Mam, please explain what you were doing prior to the attack"

Lady: " Well we were just minding our own business having a lovely picnic"...............LOL, maybe they were tourists? Or maybe you were on candid camera Surprise

Holy cow... that one puts both i's in idiot!

... weren't there dogs bowling them over to get to the food?  God forbid I should have a cookie in my pocket, I'm practically mugged, let alone an entire picnic!

    People:  Can't live with'em...can't shoot'em.

Seriously, some people are morons.  I'll bet they didn't realize it was a park for DOGS!  They just "selectively" didn't see the sign that says "Dog Park."  Good grief!  Indifferent

Baby excluded, why hasn't survival of the fittest taken care of people like this?  Ugh.

Dogs were "bothering" them...but most owners were either avoiding walking by them, or grabbing their dog by the collar away from them. I had to drag my parents dog away from them....he thinks all food is for him.

That's for sure!  Just last night, we saw a small girl who was thrown to the ground VERY hard by 2 big dogs running around having fun at the dog park. I was just telling my husband that a dog park is no place for a small child. He asked why and then, BAM! She was on the ground and screaming... That's why. So even though it seems OBVIOUS to us, it clearly isn't obvious to non-dog-people, I guess. But if there's a sign and they don't read it... Ugh!

Folks, hang on a second here - you gotta be a city-type DOG PERSON to **know** what a dogpark is!!  Just because it's common where you live and it's all the rage now, doesn't mean that everyone is going to KNOW what a "dog park" is.

My folks wouldn't have a clue and neither would anyone where they are from ... city park -- with dogs?  Great!  The very fact that they had a picnic with them (I don't think people down here where I'm living now even understand the CONCEPT of "picnic" -- it's just not the done thing here like is was back where I was from) indicates that they probably had not a clue what 'dog park' meant beyond 'park that allows dogs'.  Which to them probably meant a nice friendly place!

To those in the know "dog park" = a place where tons of dogs have elminated.  But that's because you simply know what it is.  But it's truly not a far stretch for me to think of people who really wouldn't "get" how unsanitary it might be.  And with the blanket as a barrier, I don't think it's un-thinkable that many folks would put a baby down on a blanket to change it in a 'park'.

The whole concept of "dog park" has evolved in just the last VERY *few* years.  And it's VERY regional.  Those folks probably walked off thinking everyone there was very UN-friendly.  I bet they STILL didn't 'get it' unless someone explained to them that the only real 'purpose' of the park was for dogs -- not the general community.

I was thinking the same thing as Callie - they probably just had no idea what a "dog park" means. Sort of like, "Oh, dogs are nice, let's have our picnic and watch the pretty puppies!"

Dumb, to us - oh, totally. But if it's someone who just doesn't have a clue, well... it's hard for us to pretend like we know nothing sometimes, but it can help to explain the "inexplicable" behavior of "really stupid" people. Wink

I hope those folks at least figured it out so they won't be back with food and their baby!

Honestly, people really are clueless!  Even if you don't have a dog and aren't familiar with dog parks, most have signs prominently displayed.  I feel most sorry for the dogs that inevitably harass or harm the small children that the dum dum parents bring in.  We've had all manner of parents bringing kids, strollers and snacks in who can't fathom why they're suddenly surrounded by 10-20 curious hungry dogs.  READ THE SIGN PEOPLE!!!  Some of us have gotten really rude because we'd rather be rude than have a dog charged as dangerous for stupid people's actions.  We don't bring our dogs to your playground (BECAUSE WE READ THE SIGNS) don't bring your kids to our dog park.  DUH!

If only natural selection worked the way it should in the human species!  Hmm

Well that maybe true, but they failed to read the sign that said "no food".  And if you see 10+ dogs running around in an area wouldn't you come to expect unsanitary conditions?

While I understand someone who may not be "dog park savvy" however, not reading a sign and becoming upset when someone explains the situation to you is no one's fault except your own.
