Ignorant people

Oh, I know what you mean.  I had Shari at the vet one time and I was at the end of the bench waiting area with her when this old man came in with his small poodly-looking male dog and sat right next to us.  Of course Shari is nervous and that guy's dog stuck his nose "right there" in an attempt to check Shari out.  When Shari tried to turn around and face the dog, the dog kept his nose planted and he was unyielding.  This dog was just the right height that he was able to stand half under Shari and she couldn't get away.  I got up to move and looked at the owner who was just watching his dog with the "isn't that cute" look.  I glared at him and took Shari to a more secluded spot.  I opted to bite my tongue because I didn't really want to make a scene.  Grrrr...

People were amazed by Max in the vets office when he walked onto the scale very nicely to get weighed for his heartworm pill, stood there without wiggling, and he took his pill without a problem.
I was rather annoyed in Petsmart the other day when I had him, and this guy with a little schnauzer that was barking its head off kept following us, insisting that his dog was friendly, as it continued to bark like a maniac. Max will usually go towards dogs that are acting like lunatics, but even he did not want to meet this dog. After three attempts at trying to get me to let Max meet his dog, he finally got it that it wasn't going to happen, and went on to harass someone else who was as enthusiastic as I was. He just kept following one person after another with his little yapper, trying to get them to let this thing get close to their dogs.

Next time someone asks why your hiding your dog tell them she is contagious... [sm=devil.gif]
That is usually how we keep the other dogs off mine at the vets. We also choose the little tiny short bench in the corner when possible and I get the dog to jump up and sit next to me. It's really only big enough for two kids to sit on or one adult and a skinny dog.

Though that never stops people from gaping at me and asking questions when I take all of them in at once and they walk in calmly and sit by my feet in a tight little group. (Even Marshall the one visit he has gone on) People's jaws drop. They freak even more when my kiddos favorite receptionist calls them behind the counter and they go WILD!

Usually, when we go to the vet, I have people falling all over themselves asking how we do what we do.  Dogs sitting nicely in a "wait" or "settle".  Dogs going "up" onto the scale and "waiting" to be weighed, then getting "off".  Dogs doing tricks in the waiting room for their fave techs.
I just tell them the first step is to gain control of the "pulling" LOL.  They HAUL their dogs away from mine then...[sm=rotfl.gif]

You should have seen when Bennett was about 10 months old. I took him into the clinic and he hupped up onto the exam table... We kept taking him off and hupping him back on so the vets and techs could see him do it.

Jasmine has similar problems at the vet.  When she first meets another dog she summissively pees, so I try to steer clear of other dogs to avoid accidents at the vets.  It never fails that people will just let their dogs approach her or worse let their dog wander the waiting room.  Whenever I enter the vets with Jasmine now, they hand me a towel first.  Embarassing and annoying!
