Anyone have any input on the snow thing?  How well does it work under the snow?  Is there interferance?

I lived upstate NY and got more snow than I care to remember (maybe not as much as you though).  Snow doesn't matter, it's a radio signal.  You can also run it through running water, but that's another maintenance issue.

If you have it installed, they run it about six inches under ground with a machine.  They also buried it under my driveway.  I had a lot of woods and could not bury it everywhere due to rock, etc so some of it was just laid on top of the ground (that's where the deer tripping on it can break it).

If you move you take the unit with you.  You can buy rolls of wire and install that yourself.  I opted for the installation package because I had too much property, wanted it installed in one day, and wanted the guarantee that it worked the way I wanted it laid out.  They knew where to loop my wire (2 zones) and worked with me on getting the dogs set up.  Plus, they did service calls to find wire breaks in the woods as they happened.

As it is, I have a fairly small yard measuring 21'x84'  with lots and lots of distractions on the other side so to speak.

Here's why it might not work for you.  The wire does not create a wall, it creates a zone.  That means that it covers x amount of feet to each side of it.  So if you lay the wire right on your property line (and you probably really want it inside the line), your zone actually starts x amount of feet to the inside of the wire and your dog loses that many feet of your property.  And there are no square corners (think zone) so you will round those out on your property corners, and lose those.  Did I make sense?  None of this matters so much if you keep the zone minimal -- you can even set them up just to keep your animals out of your shrubbery -- but I had to increase mine because of my beagle's persistence and had it span 15 - 20 feet total so she couldn't get up enough speed to run right through it, so the dogs lost 7 - 10 feet to the inside of my fence line.  I didn't care because I didn't want them on my property line anyway.

I can not recommend one over another because I only used one brand and know nothing about the others.  I used Invisible Fence.

eta, the wire comes in rolls, I don't know the price but you can buy it from various sources.

Hmmm... well thats good to know.  Unless Crazy Lady would let me bury it in her yard we'd definitely lose too much space.
