This lady with a puppy really annoyed me! Just a petty vent.

    Exactly!

Also, she was still way behind us when she shouted it.  If we were blocking the path I could see a "puppy coming through" shout and I might think it was sort of cute, but we weren't.  I really don't know what her point was, if she were closer to me I probably would've asked her.

Well, as far as the "puppy coming thru" maybe she didn't know if you guys knew she was behind you.  And, she didn't want to pass you if you weren't aware in case your dogs weren't friendly.  I know many people behind me and Willow always say something like, "on your right" or something like that.  A few times I've had people jog by us that I didn't hear and I wish I had known they were coming. . .not that that's there responsibility but it's helpful.

We have narrow walking paths here in my neighborhood so when I'm walking my two beasts, I pretty much take up the whole thing.  If I come up behind someone who's walking slow, I don't think it's my right to expect them to move, they have as much right to meander slowly as I do to run or whatever, so I will wait until a stretch that has enough space on the sides (there's small trees on both sides most of the way) and then I say "Excuse me" or "On your right" as I make my way around them just so they're not startled by 2 dogs coming up behind them.  I think "Coming Thru!" and expecting someone else to move is kind of rude.  Now when runners or bikers are on the trails they usually alert you somehow if they're behind you and due to the nature of running and the terrain around the paved trail, I'll move the dogs into the wooded area because a person running or a biker could hurt themselves trying to go around.

I still think she was rude.
