Cathy -- your friend may never be able to go home.  If no one finds that thing, then it could be alive for weeks hiding somewhere in her house!  The poor woman -- I can only imagine how freaked out she is.

I was happy to get a call from her last night and I could tell from the Caller ID that she was callng from home and not her cell. Her husband had gotten up yesterday morning, walked in the kitchen and stepped right on it. Fortunately, he had shoes on Ick!. It was dead after that and he put it in a baggie and saved it as proof. She said she won't be walking around barefoot in the house for a very long time and will be keeping her eyes on the floor more than usual, but she sounded good and was glad to be back in her home.

Phobias are such an odd thing. I hate spiders and wouldn't sleep in my bed if I saw one in my bedroom. However, not too long ago, I had a baby lizard in my family room. Sassy chased it under the couch and I never saw it again but it didn't phase me a bit to lie on the couch and watch TV.  Had that been a big spider, I'd have gone to the bedroom and put towels under the door so it couldn't get in Embarrassed

LOL!  One night we'd only been in bed for a minute or two, when DH suddenly threw off the covers and turned the light on -- he felt something on his arm, and sure enough there was a small spider in the bed.  It was promptly removed and flushed (I tried to get him to carry it outside, but he refused).  We turned out the lights and went back to bed.  If that had been a snake, I would've been at the local hotel PRONTO, even if it had been caught.  Then, the next day I would be buying a new bed, new linens, etc.  Stick out tongue

I'm so relieved for your friend, and I'm so glad it was her DH that "found" it in the morning.  Even with shoes - that just makes me cringe!!!
