if history has taught anything, you don't want to be on the opposite side of the Jews. Another reason someone of the Christian faith should be in office. It's too important to back Israel. And there is going to be some kind of military strike because the Jewish temple has to be rebuilt, that means the mosque on the temple mount would have to be destroyed, that's literalist view of course.
Speaking as a Christian although one who holds a different view of the end times, this is something that always worries me. IMO many Christians are trying to force Christianity on the world and you just cannot do that. You cannot expect the world to conform to God when they do not have the power to do so. Christ is what gives us the ability to conform to God and without him we are helpless to do so.
I also worry about people getting so caught up on end times that they are trying to either assist the coming of Christ or prevent it. That is a useless endeavor and God does not need our assistance in bringing about his plan. Our assistance is apt to be against the will of God and by trying to assist we are going to muck it up, causing wars and destruction and unrest that will be a direct result of our attempts to assist God in carrying out His plan.
If it truly is God's plan to cause the temple to be rebuilt then the temple will be rebuilt, no matter what, no matter who sits on the piece of ground, no matter who supports Israel or who does not as God's will cannot be changed by man's meddeling. Man's meddeling always makes things worse. To do the will of God is simple, preach the gospel and abide by the teachings given, confess your sins, repent, give thanks, forgive and so on and so forth. God will bring about his plan in his time. Christains are expected to be faithful and no more. We are not expected or instructed to assist God in wrapping up the end other than by our preaching and sharing the gospel.
Herod had great power in his time and he attempted to thwart the will of God and all he accomplished was to kill a bunch of innocent children. His desire was to destroy this child king but he was unable to do so, because that was not part of God's plan. Jonah attempted to thwart God's will by refusing to preach to a people that he believed were unworthy of God's word and his plan also fell apart and he ended up preaching as instructed and the entire city repented and were saved. As a Christian we need to know that the will of God cannot be thwarted and leave it at that.
