New Puppy

Thanks!...Yes, there will be lots of pics...So far she is doing great...she is accepting being crated and not doing bad with housebreaking...I weighed her and she weighs almost 9 lbs...What is the best way to socialize her?...

Just take her out (after the vaccination, of course) and let her meet new dogs, people and if possible, let her play with other dogs. It would be great if you have a place where you can unleash her and where she can find lots of dogs playing at the same time. They will include her in the "pack"... That's what my instructor in the doggy school suggested to me, and my dogs turned out great!

We have a company of 10 - 12 dog friends and it's always so interesting to watch them when they are together.. You know who loves who, who is the boss, you see how they defend puppies from other unknown dogs or how there is always someone who will restore the peace if things go out of control.

And you see how good dogs really are... In the park where we play is a quite deep and fast stream. It was a very hot day so some of the bigger dogs decided to fresh up and my Totti (just 4 months old then and very small) went with them in the water. I started to panic because I thought that he won't be able to go out... But then a lab (who never really played with him) went into the water too and brought him to the bank. And my Totti just loves that dog, but the other one is still completely indifferent towards him...

She's adorable!  A golden Lab, sure looks like one!  She's soooo cute!  Congrats!

Thanks for the socializing tips!...Now I've got another question...I keep her tethered to me so if she starts to go potty on the floor I can scoop her up and get her outside...She is peeing every 10 minutes but if its time for her to go and I take her out loose we can be out as long as 20 minutes and she doesn't go...so I bring her back in and hold her than in 5 minutes try again and she goes...I am beginning to wonder if she has a UTI but yet she can hold it 2-3 hours in her crate...so my question is...should she be peeing every 10 minutes and should I call the vet?...

I think she looks like a lab, but looks is no guarantee.

Has she seen the vet since you got her?  She could do with a thorough once over anyway.  *ME*, I would say for a LAB pup to be peeing that often, there's a chance something is amiss (like a UTI).

Here's *MY* New Puppy Pee Schedule:

    • After every meal/drink
    • On waking
    • After or during long periods of play or chewing
    • PLUS anytime she circles/sniffs/paces
    • PLUS every hour
At first it DOES feel like I'm getting up and going out every few minutes but that's only initially.  It should be less frequent after a couple of days... and then you get to know the pup's personal rhythm as well.

She goes to the vet this week for shots so I'll talk to the vet then...
