Jack needs prayers--badly...

I'm so glad to hear he's doing well. Sounds like he's going to make a full recovery!

Now the only question is: are you going to put the undies in a plastic bag and frame them up on the wall, the way I did with the razorblade Ole ate?

I've been waiting years to use this pic!

WOW, I am sorry I missed this yesterday!  So glad that Jack is doing better.  Poor peanut!  Sending him STRONG HEALTH vibes so that his recovery is swift and thorough!

We have not gotten the bill yet but we are guessing it is going to run us from $750-$850.  The vet quoted us $750-$1500, depending on what had to be done during the surgery.  His was the least severe of the types of bowel obstruction surgeries so I'm guessing it will be in the lower range.  We have already spent $240 at the e-vet though (it's $108 just to walk in the place Indifferent).  If he has no complications (we hope and pray) this will likely be cheaper than the elbow stuff

Well, that's much less than I imagined. I had a friend whose dog had to have emergency surgery (middle of the night) for bloat and it was much higher and that was several years ago.

Jack, honey, we could have gotten you some REALLY nice chewy bones for a fraction, AND gotten your mom something fancySmile

I'm so glad that Jack is doing so well. He's one tough dog!

I've been away from the computer for a couple of days (head cold from hell)  and I was so glad to read that Jack is on the mend.  But now you really do have to tell us about the undies.  Did he inhale something you were going to toss out anyway or an expensive little tidbit from Victorias Secret?

Yeah, inquiring minds need to know! LOL. I'm glad he's feeling better. And you could be *really* mean about the cone and decorate it with stuff :) I made Pirate's pirate-themed.

I'm just now seeing this ---- I'm so glad Jack's come through the surgery so well and is on the mend.  As for feeling like you failed him, it's easy for us to say, "Don't blame yourself," but that's MUCH easier said than done.  If I were in your shoes, I would've felt the same way.

When Tonka was a puppy, he had a bad habit of stealing clothes out of the hamper, especially socks.  Once he swallowed a sock in his attempt to get a better grip as he ran away from us.  He was about to have an X-ray when he vomited the sock, intact.  After that, we kept the hamper out of his reach, and we were very careful not to leave laundry lying around.  One night, as I was undressing, he literally grabbed my underwear out of my hands and swallowed it almost instantly.  As we rushed to the e-vet, I beat myself up the whole way for allowing it to happen.  Fortunately, with the help of some peroxide, he threw them up in the vet's parking lot.  We had to go inside and ask for a bag to discard them in ---- I was NOT about to take them home!!

Anyway, please give Jack some healing pats from me -- I hope the rest of his recovery is smooth and easy and that he doesn't feel too silly in the cone (aka "satellite dish";)!  I'm relieved for you that the worst worry seems to be behind you; I can imagine how upset you've been!

Well, Jack's back at the vet's.  DH brought him home last night and he was holding food down fine but this morning he threw his breakfast up.  The vet says that it may be that we need to give him less food at a time (he was getting 1/2 can of i/d and a 1/2 can of water mushed up 4 times a day), or because he eats so fast, or the antibiotics, and a combination of those factors.  He doesn't really have a fever and the vet checked his belly and he was not seeming like he was in lots of pain.  She is going to keep him overnight and do some bloodwork and go back to giving him a/d and see if he can keep that down.

    *sigh* My poor little guy..........Sad

Awww man, I'm sorry. I know this must be so hard on you too but it sounds like you've got a good vet and she's going to make sure that he gets thru this recovery just fine. Still, I'm sorry he's had to go back and I know it must break your heart. Hang in there and hopefully he'll be home and feeling better in another day or so.
