Somebody doesnt like my dogs?

    Somebody doesnt like my dogs?

Friday i wasnt home,my teenager was and she took care of the dogs that afternoon.Apparently around 2 she let them out and discovered someone had opened the back gate and the dogs were getting out.She rounded them all up an took them in not realizing Mia was missing.Luckily 17 year old mia has a good sprint on her but isnt really good at distances.4 hours later when i got home we found her 5 houses down taking a nap.
Since then i check the gate before i let them out. This morning at 7 the gate was closed.7:30 its open again and Sammy is missing. He came home soon after.
The gate has a lock on it,they pulled the fence post over to pull the latch off it.There is also a 2 panel section of an EX-pen clipped over the gate. This wasnt someone just casually walking by and lifting the latch. Now he have gun locks with cables wrapped around the gate and the post. They cant open it unless they have bolt cutters. If they go to all that trouble i know someone is seriously peeved at me.
I have no idea why someone would do this.I havent had any complaints from anyone.I am on good terms with my neighbor.I am just baffled!

This is disturbing to hear about. I would suspect teenagers, as they are big enough to do something like this. They aren't hurting yoiur dogs outright, but indirectly it could be a catastrophe!

I wouldn't leave them outside unwatched, if I were you. You need to catch the culprit(s) in the act. This really does sound like a disturbed teen....just my gut level feeling.

Harbor Freight Tools sells a great little video camera with Night Vision that hooks up to a vcr for like $39...real easy to hook up and use...easier to hook up than a video game...

...ask the punk down the street from me who was vandalizing my work truck how well it works. I can get you the number for Lake County Juvenile Detention Center if you would like to speak with him. LOL!

Do they bark?  I'm one over the legal limit for my city and I have to be SOOOOOOO careful about barking.  Absolutely can NOT happen or they'd call the cops and I'd lose someone.

One bark and I tell them to hush -- two and they come in.  And if somebuddy won't hush and come right in then they gotta be tire (and no one is left out long term ever).  It's just reality for me -- you could be dealing with a disturbed teen or just someone with too much time and not enough to do!

I only have a couple that are "barkers" and they arent left out for long. The only ones that get longer outside time are the group of younger guys and they spend the time playing with eachother, very little barking.I would stay out with them longer but morning play potty time is also the same time i have 4 kids to get ready for school.I have a clear view of the yard from the windows though.I dont know how this person came up and opened the gate without me noticing.
Sammy just threw up a huge pile of something green containing elbow macaroni, guess he went out for breakfast on his morning adventures.EWE!

Just wanted to add ,we dont live in a city and there is no limit to the number of dogs. There isnt even a leash law. There is no noise limit either.I am still careful to be respectful of the neighbors though.Everyone is in by 8,only quick potty breaks after that,no one out before 7 unless its a quick potty. No more than 5 out at a time because they get rowdy and make more noise playing ect.The only one that stays out most of the day is Mia.She doesnt bark,EVER,in fact i dont think she can.She gets too warm and uncomfortable inside. She just finds a spot and sleeps all day.Unless of course someone opens the fence!

However, I have to play Devil's Advocate here -- IF you have a nutcase please please please watch out.  you're going to have to be super vigilant in case someone decides to poison somebuddy -- having your kids patrol the outside at least twice a day -- if they can't open the gate, tossing something OVER the fence is the next trick someone would try.

You might want to read up on the symptoms of poisoning and have a poison control number available. JUST in case.

Callie that is scary, but you are so right to post that.  It did happen to my Dad's dog about 10 years ago, so very sad!

I would also talk to the police. It could well be that others in your area are experience oddities as well, and a pattern may develop. They may not be able to do anything, but if there's a "trail of mischief" perhaps they can identify some suspects. When we had car break ins recently, the police put flyers in the mailboxes asking if anyone had had anything unusual happen. Info is always helpful to them.

Callie beat me to it..... If someone is trying to let your dogs out, means they dont want you to have dogs... why not? Well, you might have some things they want. So please be careful and EXTRA watchful. Yes, keep an eye out for sick animals, and brown paper bags in your yard.... people will soak dog food or hot dogs in anti freeze and toss it over the fence.... painful death.... and you wont know till its too late.
The Macaroni thing actually made my heart speed up thinking they already did it..... especially since he threw it up..
Do you have a neighbourhood watch program? This could be nothing, but it could also be very dangerous.

Like another post said, get a hidden surveillance camera.  They aren't as costly as one might think...

Im pretty sure the macaroni thing happened while Sammy was missing.I am allways checking the yard for things.People are always wanting to feed them something. This is another reason i cant wait for the renovations to be done on the new place so i can get the heck outta here! We are moving to basically the midle of nowhere and we will have several cameras out there mostly looking for people dumping dogs and cats.
What happened to the good old days when people who had a problem TOLD you! If i am disturbing someone i want to know about it.We will be looking at cameras tomorrow.

dont i understand THAT statement. Someone around here shot two of our cats... we have only been living here since June..... this is my grandmother's property and has had the same neighbour's since 1967.... she practicly helped raise them and their kids.... (insert soap opera drama about buying land from her here and she said no)  ....So she moved away for about seven years, she has parkinson's with dementia, doesnt know who anyone is half the time, so my mom and my family are here with her to help take care of her..
But apparently the "Clampets" dont take too kindly to strangers... or their pets.... one of the cats they shot they didnt kill. i found him and had to have him PTS.... trouble is i have no proof... so when Kaydee came up lame i was REALLY worried they had overstepped their bounds and hit her with something.... but there is no proof. and they are acting like innocent angels with no clue as to why someone would do such mean things.
i like this place, but i really wish we had never moved here....

I agree on investing in a camera too. Video evidence is good for the police even if its just a bunch of young kids who need a good scare to stop them. I would keep the dogs inside while away & check the yard when you come home & before letting them out from now on.

That is really scary. I hope it was just some teenagers being bad and not anyone who doesnt want you to have your dogs.

Have you let a potential adopter come over to look at a dog lately? Maybe someone you ended up telling they couldnt have this certain dog? It seems like then though they would have stolen the dog they wanted... I dont know but I certainly hope this is the end of it.

    I agree with the cameras...
