One thing came to mind, make sure that when your looking for her
try to look under cars & in bushes.
Our doxie-chi mix, Coco had been a stray for 3 weeks and that
was where she'd hang out. Short dogs can hide under cars.
I am glad to hear that you got your little one back after 3 weeks. Isabelle will have been gone 3 weeks tomorrow. I know these 3 weeks have felt like forever, but then again it's only been 3 weeks.
So, I was driving around last night hoping to spot Isabelle and I suddenly just decided that I am searching WAY to far away from home. I think what happened is that I started getting calls about sightings in different neighborhoods and I have actually neglected my own neighborhood more then I should have.
Here is a small story. The neighbors up the street from me had a Dachshund that used to dig out of their yard. He would always return home after a short amount of time. One day the people were moving out when the dog ran off. They never looked for him, they just moved. Eventually he came home, but there was no one there. I took him in and he pretty much became the best dog I ever had. He never did try to dig out of my yard. But, when I took him in, he was covered in cactus needles, which tells me he was exploring in the wooded areas that join up to my neighborhood.
It never occurred to me until last night that Isabelle might have done the same thing. People often dump trash in that area and she may well have found the mother load of stuff to eat. Or perhaps she hasn't gotten tired of exploring yet. Anyway, I think that I started getting calls from the other direction and that just led me away from a very obvious search area. I am kind of kicking myself now… I suppose that the first sign should have been when the people called me about a black and tan Rottweiler and not a black and tan Dachshund… I think that over the next few days I am going to focus extra on these wooded areas.
