Your profile states you are in South Carolina.  That pretty much explains it.  We regulary get dogs and puppies transferred from your overcrowded shelters down South to up here in the North.  PetSmart came with their big truck two weeks ago and unloaded about 30 pups and dogs.  The volunteers sometimes take desperate measures and drive all the way up here too to drop some dogs off.  We only ever euthanize dogs that aren't adoptable.  Down South they euthanize the nicest of dogs.

you are right. even the no-kill shelters sometimes have to send dogs north so they will get adopted. it is very sad. the biggest problem we face is that most people dont want to spay/neuter their pets, and many many people let their dogs roam, especially in the more rural areas. i am ashamed to say that even members of my extended family do things like this.

Mirandobe- I'm not really a Pit Bull or Amstaff fan, but that blue and white guy is really nice looking! He looks like a show dog.

Isn't he just delish!?!  Like grey putty in a good owners hands.  If my circumstances were different (no landlord downstairs w/2 male Goldens - one of whom is failing health-wise and the other has an "issue" w/other young males - neutered, btw!) I'd consider taking on the challenge of a whole new breed.  He looks like a super candidate for big successes in the right hands.

Amanda -- WHAT!? Will this Weimy be a foster? Or your Bevo's new best bud? I hope it goes great!

If all goes well, the Weim will be Bevo's new bud.  If it doesn't go so well, I have a foster home already in place for him with Weim Rescue.  He is at an animal control facility & is set to be euthanized on next Tuesday.  Either way he will almost certainly go home with me.  I'm hoping he will be joining my family permanently, but if he isn't a good fit then he will go into a different rescue group barring something really, really drastic.

Hooray for getting that Weim out of harm's way!  Good luck to him tomorrow - hope all goes well and he makes his great escape.

Miranadobe, you wouldn't regret going pitty! I know it would be a challenge to adopt a new breed, but trust me, you couldn't not fall in love!

I *wish* I cold take him. That Dimitri is flippin' gorgeous! We've decided though that we are going to hold off on a second dog for a while, but believe me, the day WILL come.... Im just "patiently" waiting!

He does need a foster home..... but Im probably oh-so-far... where is he located?

Too bad we weren't all near Ontario... they have a pit bull ban and tons and tons of dogs need homes! And to top it all off, they are almost always beautiful dogs!

    YES he is!
And I have a thing for blues/blue fawns. I mean, I wouldn't intentionally buy one from a breeder (I wouldn't buy a pibble from a breeder anyway, not with tons being euthed in shelters), but I'd LOVE to adopt one!
    • Gold Top Dog
You know, recently I have a thing for Blue Fawns myself.... though I also have a thing for Reds, Fawns, Chocolates, Blues, Piebalds, etc.etc.

I know I saw her and I feel so bad for her she looks so terrified in the shelter.

When I move out on my own I'm definetly going to the shelter and getting a Pit Bull mix most likely.

Raja has a think for Bullie dogs, she adores them, probably because Shadow is mostly Pit and they sleep together everynight and play.

I meant Ontario, CA haha but I know what you mean!!

And you shouldn't have posted that link[&:]  I found this gorgous boy.....looks JUST like the dog my brother found as a stray, Scrappy Doo,  I grew up with.
