Best way to advertise Puppies

You could get listed on Breeders.net, it says it's only $2 a month.  You get put on a directory of breeders by zip code.

I have also used puppydogweb, I did get a lot of response and they were for the most part pretty awesome folks!  I have a waiting list and some folks stay on it upwards of two years.  However you have zero idea if there will be a life style change  and they become ineligible for a pup.  Applicants may back out or you may have waaaaay more pups than approved owners. I normally advertise starting after I breed the litter and know for sure we are "expecting" ...I run the ads for 6 months long after the puppies have gone just to helrp rducate the general puppy seeking public. I answer questions and refer to rescue a lot. If YOU are going to Breed you should absolutely be aware of and involved with Rescue !  And that means more than gifting your breed rescue witth a Love Tax from each pup.

Labs are one of the best breeds in the world that is why there is so many of them and I totally disagree with the statement that no one would be knocking down a door for them.  Labs are very very popular and are very wonderful family dogs.  Our Male is wonderful with all the children in the neighborhood

I guess that is Why most major Southern Cities offer reduced or free s/n for Lab pups because the shelters are full of them.   We got our last nany dog, a Lab from the local kill shelter , she was a great dog. She had been turned in to the shelter at 6 months old because the owners were disgusted with her. She was a poor Huntin dog, ( when left by herself for a weekend she got into the trash rather than catch her own food in the woods near the trailer park)  She was scared of storms ( she had to huddle under the trailer during even the worst of weather as dogs aren't supposed to come inside the house) She didn't like men in general ( the DH would routinally stomp the snot out of her when drunk and ticked off at his DW) Hated Motocycles , ( trailer nextdoor had bikers and they and her owners were always fighting with each other) .

So despite the fact they paid "50.00 WHOLE dollars for her as a pureblood AKC dog" they felt they needed to dump her so they could afford to have a kid.  God Help us all they aren't the only morons who feel this way !Crying

You mentioned you have been doing your homework after some of the posts on this topic.  Here is a bit more information that you may not have gotten, Most very reputable and highly thought of breeders will not advertise in a newspaper. Many won't advertise at all relying on their show connections to find the perfect homes for both their show and pet families. Most of us plan waaay ahead of time to allow for the chance to check out applications and check refferences. Most of us breed rarely and lose money on every litter.  If you are in it to support yourself or to pay for your vacations etc then you have changed your status from breed lover to byb looking hard at miller.

I know you may be feeling picked on and I am sorry about that. But you should remember all of us who have been in it for ages and worked our buns off to care for our respective breeds are impacted by every litter. Not by losing a sale because you may charge less, but by having dogs go out that may hit the  shelter , be cross bred  by careless owners , or end up on the news ...DOG BITES CHILD etc.

We test our stock and certify them , did you?  We use an application process , Will You ? We have Breeder Take Back Clauses in our Contracts, Do You ? Can you say you have kept track of every puppy you have sold?  I can claim about 95% there will always be one or two that fall off the radar  but for the most part I am connected and involved with every puppy I catch as it comes into the world. I am glad you have not had the problems mentioned with your pups, possibly that means you are a wonderful home. But can you relax and believe everyone you sell to will be a wonderful home as well?

While doing your "research " did you think to call the shelters and pounds in your area and ask how many labs or lab xs they had ? That alone may have made you rethink breeding.   I am not scolding just trying to show you and others why you are getting so many less than positive responces to your original question.
