Pocket Puggles?

"As breeders this couple is devoted to their puppies, who are referred to by name and treated like family pets, not like part of a puppy mill. "

So, um.... are they openly admitting that the dogs are a part of a puppy mill and that it is odd that they couple remembers their names?  I mean it is kind of neat that they can remember that many names.... but...  why if she is only impressed by one couple of the community is she in business with the whole community... ugh...move over, I'm coming in too....Ick!

I'm go tired of all this designer dog crap. Who in there right mind would pay $800 for a poorly bred mutt?

Ditto! There is a breeder up the freeway from me selling goldenXpoodles (purebred mutts) for $1500.00 & UP! She's getting away with it too & taking it to the bank. Then the suckers bring the pups to dog class bragging about the whole thing, meanwhile several perfectly good dogs at the pound are counting the seconds before the gas chamber. That makes me very sick.

The thing that REALLY made me sick about this one was the "pocket" part.   And (barf) there's actually an entry for pocket puggles on wikipedia :(   Seems that the way to breed a pocket puggle is to use a very small beagle or a rat terrier.   Don't get me wrong - I love small dogs (Prancer is only 13 lbs), but I hate seeing the way some of them are treated.    I treat Prancer as "my child" but I don't treat her as a BABY - she's still a dog with dog's needs.    The whole "pocket" thing just sickens me - how many of these dogs end up being carried around in a shoulder bag or pushed in a stroller instead of going out for a good old fashioned WALK !

The Amish really are not very much like the image people have of them outside of Amish country (if you live in a heavily Amish and old order Mennonite area, you get the reality pretty quick). They're human beings just like everyone else, and there are some not so nice ones as well as nice ones. The Amish community is extremely varied and not very much like Little House on the Prairie.

We also need to remember that the "good old days" that we see the Amish as living in were the days before animal abuse legislation, before a common view of pet animals as beloved family members, when animals were simply a means to an end. And the Christian faith of the Amish teaches that mankind has dominion over all animals, to do with what he will for his own benefit. The Amish see nothing at all wrong with using dogs to make money and supplement their incomes. 100 years ago, hardly anyone else would have either. Our view of dogs and other companion animals as somehow special and different from farm animals and desrving of better treatment is a very new concept.

A lot of Amish puppy millers work with English (ie, non-Amish) brokers, who set up websites, arrange for sales, and often put up a "front" for the prospective buyers of a small family farm with just one breeding pair of dogs. The rest of the dogs are down at Jebediah's farm in the barn, away from buyers who might be shocked by such a scene.

As long as there is a demand and as long as people have money, there will always be someone to provide what they want.  God bless America.

Dear God, these people are probably within 45 minutes of me!!! Aggg.

Maybe I will go vomit on their facility.

    • Gold Top Dog

and here we were thinking they were building a barn in "The Witness" it was probably a puppy mill the whole time!!

seriously.... the public image of the Amish is just what you see in the films..

being a Christian myself i understand what the Bible is telling me to do with animals.  Having Dominion over them means i am to TAKE CARE OF THEM. not exploit them.
Remember Jesus himself attacking the people making a profit in the name of the Lord outside the temple?
Also, the Bible tells you that money is the route of all evil. so what are these so called amish doing selling puppies and running puppy mills? just shows you that no matter what you claim your faith to be... anyone can be lured in by the curse of money.
Then again in today's time its either adapt or die. nearly everyone needs some kind $$$ to survive... in this case not everyone is going to want to buy the rugs, blankets, bread, and chairs or what ever else the Amish sell... i understand that some of the things they sell buy supplies and what not to keep the farm running... but despite that.... if they are so self sufficient to live without computers, tv, electricity, cars etc(Based on their version of Christianity) why are they selling anything at all? Does the lumber for a new barn cost that much?

i dont want to get all preachy.. but it annoys me when i see my faith distorted in such a way.

oh never mind.... i cant chew back the vomit much longer..

I have to agree the Amish are not as good to their animals as people would like to think.... this is really sad

    • Gold Top Dog

DumDog I hope I didn't give you the impression that I was saying that all Christians feel the way about animals and the idea of dominion the way the Amish do. But the form of Christianity practiced by the Amish does take that view. Not all Christian sects do. Matthew Scully, who is a Catholic and a former speech writer for Geroge Bush, is also a vegetarian and has written a book on the Biblical case for animal welfare, called Dominion

    • Gold Top Dog

no i was agreeing with you for the most part! Big Smile its the distortion of religion that makes me mad... "I'm in charge here whether you like it or not and i can do what i like and suit me because GOD says so!" .... sorry.. there's responsibility involved than that..

There are some people out there that think just because the bible tends to use dogs as an example of a sinful lifestyle then they shouldnt own dogs, like dogs, or have anything to do with dogs.. its demented to say the least.. but those the same people who think dancing with a partner or a women wearing pants and riding horses is a sin.
