Question about a GIRLY product.. proceed with caution

anyone ever hear of or actually USE a menstrual cup or moon cup? my friend mentioned them tonight and... i honestly dont know what to think.. repulsed.. intrigued... curious.. i dont know if this is the right route for me or not... $35 is a lot of dough to spend on an experiment that might fail....

I've heard of it.. But I'm too chicken to try it out! Lol.. Interesting concept thou.

They had something like that out about 25 years ago that I tried -- it was akin to wearing razor blades it cut so bad.  Plastic has come a long way since then but ... it was something I *wanted* to work (always had really unbelievably heavy flow and I had to wear 3 pads at a time PLUS tampon) and I was hoping it would stop leaks.  I just couldn't ever get it comfortable.

I don't see how it's much different than a tampon?  These days, you can get birth control that eradicates your period...seems like that would be easier.  I pay $10 for a three months supply of birth control and if I don't want periods, I don't have them.  That's cheaper than tampons or any other product!

I've used them. I liked the concept. My friend who has had TSS in the past told me about them. So I tried, but with a tilted uterus it didn't work...

Some people don't want to take cancer the chance with birth control pills, and others, like me, can't take them.

If you are going to try it I would buy the disposable ones to try at first. The are called instead and you can buy them at wallmart for about $10. They are different then the luna or diva but the theory is the same. If you don't like the instead you probably wont like the luna or diva.

I didn't like it. I found it uncomfortable and messy. I was also concerned the whole time I wore it that it would get stuck and I wouldn't be able to get it out. Tongue Tied

Oh here I am your friendly neighborhood token hippie!

Yes, I used to have a cup (the Keeper)! I actually really liked it and the only reason I don't have it any more is that one day I had it in my pocket because I was expecting my period, and it fell out somewhere and I lost it.  I've also used the Instead disposable ones, but I've found they're a lot messier to get in and out. They are much more shallow in shape and unless you have the world's tiniest laser-level (and periscope), it's going to spill on egress. Not pretty. The reusable ones (Keeper, Diva Cup, Moon Cup) are much deeper, and smaller in circumference and in my experience a lot easier to get in and out. It takes a little practice--I recommend putting it in and taking it out while you're in the shower until you get the hang of it. And you definitely have to be comfortable with your body and with touching yourself. Being squeamish makes it a lot harder to deal with. You just kind of have to suck it up and plunge right in.

My office right now offers free hot and cold running tampons in all the bathrooms, and I have reusable/washable pads at home as well, so right now I don't have any need to replace my lost Keeper, but I definitely wouldn't kick one out of bed either. I like them a lot.

GoodGolly!  I'm glad I don't have a cycle anymore!  Honestly, I think it's discusting.  It's bad enough when you have to change a tampon, but to remove a cup, empty it, and then clean it, come on!  I would think a disadvantage would be that if you didn't clean it properly, you could give yourself some kind of infection.  I'd rather use a pad, or tampon and discard!  Who wants blood all over their hands, toilet seat, floor, sink, etc.  I guess it would definitely be a preference.  Eeewww!  I love the website, though.  When I was reading the description and I was like "eww", I read further about that was the initial response.  Had to laugh at that one!

I guess it all just depends on how comfortable you are with your body. I never had a mess with the Keeper--that's really I think a symptom of the disposable ones because they are so shallow and wide. I don't mind touching myself--it's all just my body and it might not be pretty but it is a part of me. There's really no risk of infection with them. They're all made out of natural rubber and as long as your rinse them off (and some people boil them once a month), and don't, like, stomp them in to the dirt and then stick them directly in, you're fine.

...dare I ask? I was expecting "water" to come after "running," and when it didn't, I got scared...
