    "There there little bushtit.

LOL Well, at least you got a new powder puff out of the deal...

I sent the link to my bro-in-law. Perhaps the mystery will be solved and the little bushtit can go back to being the proud little gray bird that he was meant to be. Let's hope. Cheer up, little bushtit! It could be worse. You could be named a ...er, um...  well, cheer up little guy!

If the bushtits don't solve your problem, Gina, maybe you could get a couple of these?

    (that's right, I went there)

Sure those are large and showy....but are they PERKY? That species of bird looks decidedly un-perky to me. I prefer my poofty, cheeky, perky birds.

Boobies!!! My boobies don't have blue feet though...do yours?

I don't think that bird's a bushtit... looks like a dove to me. Maybe it's a young mourning dove, and that's why it's so fluffy? Or some other pigeon/dove.

It is absolutely not any sort of dove.  Birds will fluff up when they get cold.  It could be a bushtit, I'll have to look it up when I get home in my field guides tonight.  One of my favorite birds around here is the Tufted Titmouse incidentally.

I think that it is only right that the boobies deserve honorable mention in this thread.

    Cressida - ROFLMAO!!!

    OMG, I needed that!

4IC You are being very patient with us going so far afield with this thread...I did need a giggle today so I appreciate it. I do think my guess is a good one...I went to an Arizona Bird site and just kinda pecked around to see what fit the look...

The bird sounds very charming, and insistent....is it possible it's seeing it's own reflection and THAT is what has it so very fixated and worked up?

Are you kidding? Don't think you're the only one getting a much needed guffaw!!

For 3 days? In several windows of the same house including the skylight? I suppose it's possible. BIL said it didn't seem to be the case. I'm uploading a movie of the little guy now. He also said it's about 7 inches long, so I think a bushtit is out of the question. More like a Towhee, which I expected simply from it's odd but endearing behavior.

    Here's the video

(Neither my BIL nor I can hear the bushtit's song. Does it sound like this?)

     I think it's an Abert's Towhee... Wink

Oh. I think it's a mockingbird. And they are OBNOXIOUS, so it doesn't surprise me that it's spent 3 days trying to get into his house. I had a nest behind my house and they just sat on my fence squawking and trying to attack my animals.

Hmm maybe try and see what this bird deciphering site says? All they need's a pic...video would probably make it easier that pie for them tho!

i dont think its a mocking bird.. might be.. but just doesnt share all the features

this one kept coming up in the website.. but i'm not good enough to tell bird songs apart lol

the whatbird.com site has a neat search engine that lets you pick out the features of the bird and compare to others that match up.

i see these guys in my backyard a lot.... they stand out from all the itty bitty finchers :D
